Our culture is built on **trust, inclusivity, and empowered project management**, with each team member taking full ownership—from scoping and execution to postmortems. ### Your team and role On the **Data Science Functional Team**, you’ll drive product and business impact by: - Developing and mentoring data scientists - Setting clear expectations and removing blockers - Guiding multiple data science projects to ensure timely delivery and maximum impact Projects will include **statistical modeling, experiment design, and classifier implementation** across: - Search engine - Instant answers - AI - Revenue optimization You’ll collaborate cross-functionally to validate direction through data, consult on experiments, and become an expert in core metrics such as **searches, installs, and revenue**. You’ll also drive improvements to the **data pipeline** and, given our privacy-first approach, develop creative strategies to surface more actionable insights in an **evidence-first** culture. ### About you - **10+ years** experience in data science or ML engineering, with **4+ years** leading teams; proven track record setting multi-team roadmaps and adapting quickly to shifting priorities - Ability to drive a culture of data-driven decision-making and clearly communicate technical tradeoffs/risks to executives and stakeholders - Enjoys coaching experienced data scientists; provides direct, actionable feedback and builds teams where people do their best work - Expert-level ability to deploy and iterate **ML/NLP** in production—especially in constrained environments with fast responses and strict privacy standards - Writes **production-grade Python** (or comparable high-level language) and stays close to technical work when it matters - Advanced **SQL** and query optimization; familiarity with columnar databases such as **BigQuery, ClickHouse, Redshift, or Druid** - Strong **LLM/AI** experience (e.g., fine-tuning, LLM-as-judge evaluation, AI-assisted development) and ability to design/implement/analyze experiments using sparse or privacy-constrained data - **Preferred:** experience at a consumer-facing tech company where data/analytics is central to product strategy ### Compensation Paid on a regional pay scale (local currency) plus stock options: - **United States:** $263,300 USD annually - **United Kingdom:** £183,850 GBP annually - **Canada:** C$346,250 CAD annually - **Europe / Rest of World:** €214,950 EUR annually Notes: - In **Spain**, pay is expected to transition to the EUR scale on **Jan 1, 2027** - In other **Europe / Rest of World** countries, transition is expected on **Feb 1, 2027** Team Member Support Guide: https://duckduckgo.com/assets/hiring/team_support_guide.pdf ### Hiring process Hiring is a two-way street.
