## Staff Parser/Compiler Research Engineer ### About At **.txt**, we build structured generation: language models produce output that follows a given format by deciding—at every decoding step—which tokens are allowed. We compile **JSON Schema**, **regex**, **grammars**, **function definitions**, or **policies** into fast, decoding-loop-ready mechanisms that help power **reliable and safe agents**. ### Responsibilities - **Design & Develop:** Build high-performance parsers and data structures that integrate with LLMs. - **Problem Solving:** Research advanced parser/compiler technology and symbolic methods. - **Write Quality Code:** Ensure reliability and efficiency through rigorous testing and optimization. - **Stay Ahead:** Keep up with the latest, relevant LLM advancements. ### Qualifications - Professional **Python** experience, plus practical experience with lower-level languages such as **C/C++** or **Rust**. - Hands-on experience with parsers and formal methods, including: - **Earley**, **LALR(1)** - formal grammars, finite-state machines - efficient data structures - ability to do R&D in these areas - Familiarity with relevant work and tooling, including: - https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.09702 - https://github.com/outlines-dev/outlines - Strong values around **simplicity, testing, and automation** (and you can demonstrate it). - Clear, concise, consistent written communication. ### Why Join Us - **The problem matters:** Parsers/compilers provide the layer that guarantees agents can only do what they were asked. - **Remote-first:** Work from anywhere; communication is mostly written with occasional organic discussions. - **Competitive compensation & benefits:** Market-rate salary + stock options, health/dental insurance, and a **401(k)** (US).
