We’re headquartered in NYC and offer a hybrid schedule (four days/week in-office; no required office days during the summer and winter holidays). **About the Role** Betterment Advisor Solutions (BAS) helps advisors scale their practice and deliver a high-quality, personalized client experience. BAS enables automated portfolio management, custom portfolio building, easy paperless onboarding, and back-office automation—along with other key features for advisors. The Advisor Solutions team automates and refines technical integrations (APIs, datasets, and background processes) across internal and external applications. The team also owns how advisors access that data through in-app reports and visualizations, public APIs, and MCP access. As the **Sr. Engineering Manager** for the Advisor Solutions Team, you’ll collaborate with product management and cross-functional stakeholders to build and execute a mission-aligned roadmap. You’ll partner with engineers to identify, refine, and deliver technical strategies that accelerate BAS growth—while also playing a key role in recruiting and team development. **Location & Compensation (NYC)** - **Base salary range (NYC): $200,000 - $230,000** - Hybrid in-office attendance: **Tuesday–Thursday weekly** (for NYC HQ roles) Betterment also offers a competitive equity package and comprehensive benefits (health, dental, vision, life/AD&D, disability, EAP, commuter/parking benefits, FSA/HSA, and 401(k) with employer match), plus flexible PTO and potential variable compensation (incentive bonus). **A Day in the Life** - Lead, grow, and manage a team of fullstack engineers building technology that empowers advisors to help clients make the most of their money. - Develop deep domain expertise to strengthen collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders. - Partner with BAS business leaders to shape strategies that support Betterment’s industry leadership. - Foster a culture of engineering excellence, customer commitment, and strong accountability. - Apply a first-principles mindset to develop innovative solutions. - Support career development and align roadmap opportunities with your direct reports’ growth goals. - Drive agile and efficient engineering practices to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions on schedule. - Encourage open communication and creative problem-solving. **What We’re Looking For** - Strong experience in object-oriented programming (**Ruby on Rails preferred**). Plus: React, GraphQL, and data engineering. - Hands-on management experience mentoring and inspiring a diverse team of senior engineers. - Player-coach experience—actively contributing when needed. - Ability to coach through technically complex challenges and provide meaningful architectural direction, code review, and hands-on work. - Experience leading large team projects and managing multiple concurrent projects. - Track record building high-production-value software where quality and correctness matter—while maintaining a nimble, high-velocity culture. - Experience collaborating with product managers, subject matter experts, other engineering teams, and non-technical stakeholders. - Ability to make decisions under ambiguity with multi
