## Software Engineer II — Home Chef ### What you’ll do - Leverage deep knowledge of the codebase to independently implement high-quality solutions - Translate business problems into technical solutions - Anticipate cross-functional implications and communicate effectively with teammates and stakeholders - Review other engineers’ work and provide constructive feedback - Investigate and troubleshoot production errors when needed ### Responsibilities **Writing code to solve business problems and handling tickets** - Build features using **Ruby on Rails** with a **Postgres** database - Write proficient **React**, **JavaScript**, and **CSS** - Deploy and support applications in a **Heroku** environment - Demonstrate experience with backend development, design, and implementation - Work with databases (relational/NoSQL), caching, and feature implementation/optimization - Ship and maintain reliable, scalable, efficient code - Regularly troubleshoot and resolve production errors and identify root causes - Develop mobile features for **iOS and Android** using **React Native** **Reviewing the work of teammates, collaborating with others** - Provide actionable feedback to unblock peers - Contribute to discussions that influence the roadmap and product development - Communicate clearly while pair programming - Discuss trade-offs of technical approaches - Regularly review teammates’ work and provide directional feedback - Participate in team meetings for roadmap planning and team efficiency ### Key traits and behaviors - **Taking Ownership:** Get the job done—no task is too big or small; move with speed and realistic, aggressive timelines - **Pragmatic, Next-level Thinker:** Explore new methodologies; take calculated risks; use data to drive practical decisions - **Humble Team Player:** Collaborate effectively; consider different viewpoints; put team/company needs first ### Qualifications - At least **1 year** of experience shipping production code - Built and shipped major features in **Ruby on Rails and/or React** - Comfortable with **version control** (e.g., **GitHub**) - Proficient with at least one code editor (e.g., **VS Code, Sublime, Vim**) - Comfortable with tools like **Slack** and **GSuite** - Willing to respond to **on-call** events - **SQL** knowledge is a plus (not required) - **Heroku** experience is a plus - **React Native** experience is a plus - Up to **1 year** of post-high school training (business school, community college, or vocational training) - **0% travel** ### Perks & benefits (highlights) - Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance - Paid holidays, sick time, and vacation time - 401(k) program - Flexible spending accounts ### Pay range (Illinois) - **$125,000 — $140,000 USD** *Note: Exact offer depends on factors like location, experience, skills, and internal equity.*
