The Fanatics App brings together **free-to-play games, live events, ecommerce, and new product experiences** to deliver a best-in-class sports platform. --- ## Role: Backend Staff Engineer (Core) As a **Backend Staff Engineer** at Fanatics Core, you’ll be a recognized technical leader—**strategic and hands-on**—leading ambitious projects where your solutions set the standard for the team. You’ll help drive features end-to-end, from backend to frontend, and cultivate a culture of excellence and innovation. --- ## Responsibilities - Drive development, testing, documentation, and deployment of **high-quality, scalable** software into production - Build deep understanding of industry, product, and roadmap to shape team strategy and influence org direction - Lead end-to-end technical execution of complex features and systems (ideation → architecture → deployment → refinement) - Define and enforce engineering principles, guidelines, and best practices - Partner with product, design, and stakeholders to make high-impact technical decisions aligned to business goals and long-term scalability - Participate in **on-call incident resolution**, ensuring swift diagnosis and remediation of critical issues - Proactively remove roadblocks and collaborate cross-team to maintain momentum - Conduct and elevate code reviews to improve code quality - Lead planning and design discussions, introducing innovative approaches and optimizing design patterns - Improve software quality, testability, operational metrics, and team documentation - Mentor and coach engineers at all levels - Be open to occasional travel for conferences, events, meetings, and team-building --- ## Required Qualifications - **7+ years** building highly scalable, performant, evolvable backend distributed systems - Proficiency in **Spring with Kotlin and/or Java** (plus) - Demonstrated ability to drive backend best practices and mentor others (e.g., clean code, hexagonal/layered architectures, domain-driven design) - Observability experience: **logging, monitoring, tracing** in distributed systems - Strong Agile delivery experience; ability to model and drive process improvements across teams - Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences - Team-first mindset; thrives in a high-growth environment with shifting priorities --- ## Preferred Qualifications - Strong experience in sports, gaming, and content delivery - Strong Kotlin, Java and/or Go - Messaging/event-driven tech (e.g., **Kafka** or **Amazon SQS**) - Comfortable with cloud-native and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., **Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform**) - Ability to work across legacy and greenfield systems, multiple languages and environments > If you meet some (but not all) requirements, Fanatics still encourages you to apply. --- ## Location / Compensation - **Salary Range:** $144,000–$235,000 USD - Ranges may vary by country/state based on Geographical Compensation Zones. --- ## Notes - #LI-AC2 - Fanatics will never ask candidates for money or sensitive personal information as part of the interview process.
