Senior Systems Engineer, Platform Requirements and Interfaces
Cssmerge · San Francisco, CA
About this role
**Who we are** Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress—real-world robots for industries that move civilization forward (starting with food, mining, and transport). We integrate hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and deployment to turn complex physical operations into something more reliable, scalable, and productive. **About the role** We’re seeking a **Senior Systems Engineer** to own **system requirements** and **interface control documents** for our **autonomous vehicle and truck platforms**. You’ll take platform-level requirements through decomposition and allocation to subsystem requirements, then develop verification plans and confirm results against each requirement—ensuring the autonomy kit’s sensing, compute, networks, and power meet the vehicle/machine it’s installed on. This work spans OEM vehicle platforms and off-highway trucks, including requirements and interface documentation for new platform variants. **What you’ll do** - **System requirements:** Write and maintain system/subsystem requirements, including decomposition, allocation (sensing, compute, networks, power, actuation, autonomy software), and traceability to verification. - **Interface control documents (ICDs):** Build and maintain ICDs between the autonomy kit and each vehicle/truck platform, and between subsystems within the kit (signals, networks, power, timing, mounting, data). Run the review/change process. - **Requirements management & traceability:** Use requirements management toolchains (structure, attributes, baselines, change tracking, and traceability from requirement → design → verification evidence). - **Verification planning:** Write verification plans and acceptance criteria across analysis, bench, simulation, closed course, and on-vehicle testing. Coordinate execution and confirm results against requirements. - **New platform variants:** Produce requirements deltas and ICDs for new vehicle/truck platforms and new sensor/compute generations; keep common requirements consistent across platforms. - **Integration, test, and field feedback:** Support integration and bring-up. Classify failures as requirement/interface/implementation defects and feed changes back into requirements and interfaces. - **Documentation:** Write requirements and interface documentation for engineers, technicians, and partner teams. - **Cross-functional work:** Partner with vehicle integration & hardware engineering, autonomy/robotics software teams, functional safety, and bench/HIL engineering. **What we’re looking for** - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Systems Engineering, or related field **+ 5+ years** systems engineering experience. - Experience authoring system requirements for vehicle/robotics/comparable hardware/software systems (decomposition, allocation, verification traceability). - Experience writing/maintaining ICDs or equivalent interface specifications. - Experience with requirements management tools such as **Jama, DOORS, or Polarion** (structure, attributes, traceability). - Experience writing verification plans/acceptance criteria and confirming test results against requirements. - Working knowledge of vehicle networks/interfaces (e.g., **CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet**) and sensor/compute interfaces with time synchronization. - Experience on an autonomous vehicle or robotics platform. - Experience handling autonomous driving/robotics senso
