Design Engineer
Eagle · New York City
About this role
## About Eagle Eagle (https://www.eagleeng.com/) is on a mission to re-energize the engineering profession. Most engineering firms still rely on legacy software that’s error-prone, slow, and built before “user experience” existed. Eagle is building an AI-native platform to help civil engineers get back to designing the future of our built environment. ## About the Opportunity As a **Design Engineer**, you’ll work directly with the CTO to turn intelligence into something engineers can actually trust and use. The challenge isn’t only modeling data—it’s making non-deterministic, agentic systems legible to people who haven’t worked with software companies before. You’ll own the product surface where that trust is won or lost. ## What You’ll Do - Embed with staff at engineering firms alongside the founders; observe how they work, then design and build based on what you learn. - Own the product surface end-to-end: interaction design, prototyping, and shipping the production front-end yourself. - Establish and own Eagle’s design system (components, patterns, primitives) to keep everything coherent as products compound across acquisitions. - Define interaction patterns for an AI-native platform, including streaming/latency, human-in-the-loop review, provenance & citations, and transparent agent behavior. - Collaborate directly with the CTO on product direction, culture, and what we’ll build next. ## Our Values - **Ask Why:** Beginner’s mind; ask questions relentlessly; share learnings. - **Read the Room:** Listen first; meet people where they are. - **Get on a Flight:** Dogged persistence; operate with urgency; push and be pushed. ## What We Look For - Strong design taste **and** the engineering chops to ship in production (React/TypeScript or equivalent). You don’t hand off. - Experience building and maintaining a design system used by more than one product/team. - Real UX experience for AI-native products—comfortable with non-determinism, streaming output, uncertainty, agentic flows, and earning trust in machine output. - Deep curiosity about how organizations, workflows, and markets work. - Willingness to expose gaps in knowledge and keep asking why. - Poise and communication skills to earn trust with people new to tech. - Ability to distill noisy, conflicting user feedback into clear product decisions. - Willingness to travel and work closely with users (including getting on a plane). - Humility and hands-on mindset (e.g., drawing icons, writing components, sitting beside users, wiring tools to test ideas fast). ## Compensation & Benefits - **Cash:** Competitive ($150K–$300K depending on experience) - **Equity:** Founding equity, scaled to scope - **Health Insurance:** Full healthcare (medical + dental) - **Retirement:** 401(k) - **PTO:** Flexible time off - **Travel:** Company-paid - **Office:** HQ in New York City ## Process Our process takes ~2 weeks: 1. Conversation with Tom or Mayank 2. Second founder conversation 3. 60-minute technical interview 4. Work trial: meet the team and build with us for a day
