## About the Role Works closely with Sr. and/or Lead Database Administrators to provide technical expertise in the planning, design, implementation, and operation of database platforms supporting H&R Block business applications across **cloud and on-premises** environments. Delivers **secure, reliable, scalable, and cost-effective** solutions while enabling developer autonomy through standardized patterns, self-service capabilities, automation, documentation, and technical guidance. You’ll apply security, compliance, reliability, and operational guardrails to reduce risk and support successful business outcomes. You will also monitor, optimize, and maintain database services, continually evaluating emerging technologies and opportunities for improvement. ## Key Responsibilities - Provide strong expertise in **Microsoft SQL Server** and **Azure SQL** solutions (cloud and on-premises) - Monitor and maintain database health, capacity, performance, availability, storage, security, patching, and compliance - Take proactive action to reduce risk and prevent service disruption - Automate provisioning, configuration, maintenance, validation, monitoring, and remediation to improve consistency and operational efficiency - Collaborate across database, platform, cybersecurity, governance, and application teams to resolve incidents and eliminate recurring issues - Support peer reviews, on-call support, incident response, and root-cause analysis - Evaluate emerging database, cloud, automation, and AI technologies - Apply AI in day-to-day activities (agentic development and responsible use across development, testing, documentation, and operations) ## Required Qualifications - **Bachelor’s degree** in a related field (or equivalent via education + related work experience) - **3+ years** DBMS administration experience with **SQL Server** and **PostgreSQL** (implementation, tuning, troubleshooting, maintenance) - **3+ years** experience with operating systems such as **UNIX, Linux, or Windows** - Shell scripting experience - Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills - Teamwork skills ## Preferred Qualifications - PostgreSQL experience - PL/SQL development background ## Why Work for Us H&R Block’s purpose is to provide help and inspire confidence in clients and communities. Individual pay decisions depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skills, performance, and geographic location.
