For more information about offices and culture, see the [Carta careers page](https://carta.com/careers/). --- ## The Team You’ll Work With Carta’s **Investors** business unit is building the system of record for private markets—covering the **ledger, books, tax filings, LP reporting, and deal pipeline** in one connected platform. Nearly **7,000 funds and SPVs** and **$150B** in assets already run through it. This is not “another portal.” It’s a **programmable back office** where work is automated end-to-end (e.g., expenses coded and staged for approval, capital calls generated from simple inputs, and K-1s ready early). You’ll join small, senior teams that combine startup speed with the rigor required to move real money. **Focus areas include:** - **Fund Financials:** Ledger, expense allocation, and cash reconciliation—get the numbers right automatically at scale. - **Tax and Compliance:** K-1s, KYC, and audit trails—compliance as code. - **LP Management and Reporting:** Capital calls, distributions, PCAPs, and tearsheets—turn quarterly reporting into a query. --- ## The Problems You’ll Solve (Staff Engineer) As a **Staff Engineer**, you’ll be responsible for the long-term technical health and success of the Investors business unit. You’ll work to: - **Navigate ambiguity:** Tackle complex, poorly defined problems and break them into paths others can execute. - **Champion systemic improvement:** Identify and eliminate failure patterns across systems; drive architectural changes that improve scalability and reliability. - **Bridge technical gaps:** Align multiple teams on major technical decisions using deep cross-domain understanding. - **Define the AI frontier:** Define the context and build the rails that enable safe, effective AI usage across Carta. - **Uphold engineering standards:** Set the vision for operational excellence and mentor senior engineers to raise the organization’s craft. --- ## About You - **Tech stack:** Expert in distributed systems. Primary stack includes **Python/Django**, **React**, and **Postgres**. Comfortable guiding direction across **JVM languages**, **gRPC**, and **cloud-native infrastructure (AWS)**. - **Leadership:** Leads through influence; role model for constructive communication and technical discipline. - **Vision:** Anticipates future roadblocks and builds systems that support long-term growth. - **Experience:** Recommended **10+ years** of professional software engineering experience with a track record of high-level technical leadership. --- ## Salary Carta’s minimum cash compensation (salary + commission if applicable) range for this role is: - **$240,000 – $300,000 (New York, NY)** Final offers may vary based on geography, candidate experience and expertise, and other factors. --- ## Disclosures - Carta is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to a positive interview experience.
