## Sr. Lead AI Engineer — Klaviyo **Location:** Boston, MA (hub-first; regular in-office collaboration) ### About the Role Klaviyo is investing in **Marketing AI** and **Service AI** to power next-generation **agentic capabilities** across its ecosystem. The **Klaviyo Orchestrate** pillar delivers the core, high-throughput orchestration platform used to manage and execute complex marketing workflows—balancing **Tier-1 availability**, **low-latency scalability**, and rapid agility. ### How You’ll Make a Difference - Architect and scale Klaviyo’s **Core Orchestration** platform for high-traffic, low-latency services with extreme reliability. - Drive the technical vision for integrating **AI-driven agentic workflows** and automated decision-making into core customer interactions. - Lead adoption of **AI-native engineering practices** to improve engineering productivity and delivery speed. - Design foundational frameworks and services adopted across engineering teams; champion high technical standards through design reviews and mentorship. - Partner with **product management, data science, design, and executive leaders** to shape strategic roadmaps and long-term platform architecture. ### Who You Are - **Experienced Backend Leader:** 8+ years in software engineering focused on distributed systems, microservices, and high-availability backend platform ownership. - **AI & Agentic Systems Practitioner:** Production experience shipping LLM workflows, **RAG pipelines**, or agentic frameworks; strong understanding of **evals**, prompt architecture, and fine-tuning. - **Distributed Systems Specialist:** Track record with event-driven architectures, async processing pipelines, and message queues (e.g., **Kafka, Celery, SQS, Redis**). - **Python & Tooling Mastery:** Deep proficiency in **Python** and modern frameworks (e.g., **FastAPI, Django**), plus data processing and ORM tooling. - **Cloud Infrastructure Native:** Strong expertise in **AWS**, **Kubernetes**, **CI/CD**, and observability. - **Quality & Evals Focused:** Experience building automated evaluation frameworks balancing **latency, accuracy, cost, and safety**. - **Cross-Functional Influencer:** Clear communication and collaborative problem-solving across engineering and business domains. - **Collaborative & Customer-First:** Comfortable working with PMs, ML engineers, and customers; able to translate customer needs into resilient architecture. - **AI-First Engineer:** Uses AI coding tools and modern agentic workflows to accelerate innovation. ### Nice to Haves - Experience designing/integrating shared AI/ML platforms used by multiple internal engineering teams. - Domain expertise in **MarTech**, e-commerce platforms, personalization engines, or real-time event streaming. ### Compensation & Additional Notes - **Base Pay Range (US locations):** **$216,000 — $324,000 USD** - Total compensation may include bonus, variable compensation (role-dependent), equity, sign-on, and benefits. - **Travel:** Up to **10%** may be required for onboarding, client/partner work (if applicable), team meetings, and industry events. *AI fluency at Klaviyo includes responsible use of AI (privacy, security, bias awareness, human-in-the-loop).
