About this role

**Senior Software Engineer — Unified Orchestration (Qualtrics)** Qualtrics builds software that helps the world’s best brands deliver exceptional frontline experiences. In this role, you’ll join the **Unified Orchestration** team—spanning **ML Topics** and the **XM Pipeline**—to help run, scale, and improve the core backend infrastructure that **classifies and routes high-volume unstructured customer text** through enrichment systems. --- ### Why this role You’ll collaborate closely with **science, product, and data platform** teams to evaluate state-of-the-art model and pipeline advancements, then **own the safe transition of selected innovations into production**. --- ### How you’ll find success - Take **end-to-end ownership** of backend features (scoping → architecture → release → operational support) - Lead projects by coordinating cross-functional contributors (science, product, data platform) - Rigorously review agentically generated code using independent checks to ensure safety and production readiness - Use **operational signals, logs, and metrics** to identify errors, remove bottlenecks, and prevent dropped documents - Adapt quickly to the team’s tech stack (e.g., **Go, TypeScript, Temporal, Kubernetes**) even if you don’t match every detail - Apply strong operational judgment during **on-call**, customer escalations, and **SEV** events --- ### How you’ll grow - Step into **project leadership** and senior-level feature ownership - Build hands-on expertise running **model/LLM/pipeline experiments in production** with applied science teams - Deepen mastery of **high-throughput, high-availability distributed systems** and modern orchestration patterns - Drive innovative initiatives (e.g., automated topic recommendations; combining rules-based + LLM classification) --- ### Things you’ll do - **Optimize classification & AI ROI:** evaluate models by production performance, compute cost, quality, and customer experience—then deploy winners - **Strengthen pipeline architecture:** design/build/maintain high-throughput workflows that segment and route documents to enrichment services - **Enhance observability:** implement telemetry/monitoring to catch errors early, maintain throughput, and prevent dropped documents - **Expand platform capabilities:** partner with data platform and downstream enrichment teams to integrate new processing capabilities - **Maintain operational health:** participate in on-call rotation (~**1 week every 6 weeks**) to resolve escalations, mitigate SEVs, and ensure high availability --- ### What we’re looking for - Experience building, scaling, and operating **high-throughput, high-availability backend services** in distributed environments - Proven feature ownership or project leadership, including cross-functional coordination - Practical operational experience with monitoring, alerting, troubleshooting, scaling, and databases - Experience with **LLMs, model evaluation, or ML experimentation pipelines** (hands-on tuning/evaluation is a plus) - Familiarity with tools like **Go, TypeScript, Temporal, Kubernetes** (or equivalent distributed systems stacks) --- ### Team highlights - **Dual-focus scope:** ML Topics (topic detection + AI enrichment) and XM Pipeline (high-volume routing + orchestration) - **Cross-functional synergy:** convert research into robust, scalable software with product, science, and platform engineering - **Balanced operational culture:** organized on-call rotation (~1 week eve
