Block is remote-first and focuses on using intelligence across everything it does. **The Role** The Network Edge Security team builds tools that provide insights into our API security posture and the trustworthiness of traffic flowing into our systems. The team uses machine learning, streaming analytics, and data analysis to understand network edge risk exposure and the true sources of request flows. Primary focus: up-leveling API security posture for downstream products and services, while also responding quickly to emerging threats at the edge. **What you will do** - Respond to and mitigate emerging threats and attacks at the network edge using WAF rules, bot vendors, and other CDN-native technologies - Build infrastructure to improve inventory of our network edge security posture - Build and maintain near-real-time streaming analytics data pipelines and applications - Contribute to the evolution of labeling and ML model development - Help manage and maintain systems across build, deploy, and production monitoring - Be flexible with programming languages (Java, Kotlin, Python, TypeScript, PySpark, and others as needed) - Evaluate and build integrations with vendor systems alongside in-house solutions - Develop and implement AI-driven capabilities to classify and mitigate abusive traffic patterns - Strong plus: experience with bot/fraud identification and mitigation systems **What you have** - 5+ years of software or security engineering experience building scalable production software with testing, evaluation, and monitoring - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent practical experience) - Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, TypeScript, and Python - Proficiency in data analysis using SQL and Spark - Experience implementing and maintaining applications in both CDN (Cloudflare and Fastly) and AWS ecosystems - Strong plus: familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks, and Datadog **Technologies we use and teach** - Java/Kotlin, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python - CDN (Cloudflare and Fastly) - Snowflake, MySQL, DynamoDB, Databricks - AWS - Kafka - Datadog, Terraform **Pay Transparency (U.S.)** Block uses market-based pay with zones based on cost of labor: - **Zone A:** $217,800 — $326,800 USD - **Zone B:** $207,000 — $310,400 USD - **Zone C:** $196,100 — $294,100 USD - **Zone D:** $185,200 — $277,800 USD **Application Guidelines** - Up to 9 active applications within a 60-day period - Reapplications to the same role accepted 90 days after a previous application has been reviewed **AI in the Hiring Process** Block may use automated AI tools to evaluate job applications for efficiency and consistency, complying with local regulations and privacy requirements. **Benefits & Equal Opportunity** Block is committed to an inclusive interview experience and providing reasonable accommodations.
