About this role
## Staff Developer Experience (DX) Engineer ### Company Overview Deepgram is the leading platform underpinning the Voice AI economy—providing real-time APIs for speech-to-text (STT), text-to-speech (TTS), and production-grade voice agents at scale. With 200,000+ developers and 1,300+ organizations building “Powered by Deepgram,” Deepgram has processed 50,000+ years of audio and transcribed 1T+ words. ### Operating Rhythm Deepgram is **AI-first**: using and experimenting with advanced AI tools is core to how teams operate and measure performance. The pace is fast—change is rapid, and the role requires comfort adapting quickly and continuously pushing what these technologies can do. ### About the Role As a **Staff Developer Experience Engineer**, you’ll own the systems that help developers go from **API key to production** with minimal friction. This is a **deeply technical engineering role** (not traditional Developer Relations). You’ll build and evolve the foundation behind Deepgram’s **multi-language SDKs**, improve the developer journey across every touchpoint, and remove friction before developers encounter it. ### What You’ll Work With - **Real-time, streaming SDKs** wrapping low-latency WebSocket APIs (STT, TTS, Voice Agents) - streaming, partial/interim results, reconnection, backpressure, concurrency - **Multiple languages/tech stacks**: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Rust, .NET, Java - **Open source in the open**: SDKs on GitHub; you own repos and engage with external contributors - **Spec-driven, generated SDKs**: generation pipeline + templates (not hand-writing each library) - **Wider surface area**: CLI, docs/reference experience, starter repos, and reference integrations (e.g., Pipecat, LiveKit, AWS, Twilio) ### What You’ll Do - **Own the DX direction**: set the DX roadmap and act as technical lead for the area (no direct reports) - **Own SDK code-generation architecture**: design the system so each supported library ships predictably and adding a new language is low-cost - **Set the standard for developer experience**: quality bar, cross-language parity, versioning/release discipline, observability - **Raise the level of the team**: code review, patterns, documentation, pairing—lead through influence - **Attack friction at the root**: identify systemic causes and fix them structurally - **Build the tooling the team relies on**: code-generation pipeline, CI/infrastructure, starter repos, and context for human + AI coding agents (including llms.txt) - **Design for resilience and longevity**: documentation, automation, and architecture that scales beyond any one person - **Be the technical voice cross-functionally**: provide context/input to Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Partnerships ### What We’re Looking For - Experience **owning developer-facing tooling across multiple languages** (libraries → generators/templates/release automation) - **AI as real infrastructure** in your workflow (agentic pipelines, custom tooling/generators) with strong verification discipline - A bias toward **reusable systems** that outlive you (generators, automation, pipelines, architectures) - **First-principles systems thinking** about SDKs, code generation, and partner ecosystems - **Production ownership instincts**: observability, incident response, backward-compatibility discipline, removing recurring toil - Ability to **go beyond core**: developer content/demos/community work when needed - Focus on **developer outcomes**, c
