About this role

## About Docker Docker is a developer tooling brand trusted by **20M+ monthly users** and **20B+ container image pulls**. Docker helps developers **build, share, and run applications** across products like **Docker Desktop**, **Docker Hub**, and **Docker Scout**. Docker’s **AI Substrate** team builds the enterprise foundation for agentic workflows—providing **sandboxed environments**, **verified images**, and **secure infrastructure** so autonomous systems are trustworthy by default. **Location:** Seattle, WA or Palo Alto, CA --- ## Responsibilities - Design and build systems that **deploy, release, and operate** Docker’s agentic platform for enterprise customers using **Go** and **Kubernetes**. - Ensure the platform runs consistently across **cloud providers and environments**, with the **security, identity, and network boundaries** enterprises require. - Own the **release and software supply chain** so every deployment is **reproducible, verifiable, and trusted**. - **Production ownership**: on-call, SLOs, incident response, and operational tooling to keep operations “boring.” - Set technical direction with the team’s architect and engineering leadership; collaborate with partner teams across **runtime, developer experience, identity, and observability**. - Raise the bar through **design review**, testing discipline, and mentorship as the team grows. --- ## Qualifications (Required) - Built and operated a **cloud control/management plane** in production with pager responsibility (multi-tenant or multi-environment provisioning/upgrades/watching). - **Kubernetes beyond deployment**: written controllers/operators, understand **reconciliation** and **CRDs**, and value declarative approaches at fleet scale. - Deep experience in at least one major cloud (compute, networking, identity, managed services) and ability to ramp on a second cloud. - Strong **production ownership**: on-call, incident response, SLOs, post-mortems. - **Distributed systems design**: fault tolerance, consistency, observability, idempotent reconciliation. - **Go** proficiency (Docker backend and team code are in Go). - **10+ years** professional experience in infrastructure/platform/cloud services with judgment to set direction. --- ## Strongly Preferred - Kubernetes resource orchestration and cloud controllers (e.g., KRO). - Release engineering and software supply chain: **OCI registries**, **digests**, **license compliance**. - Private connectivity between cloud accounts (e.g., PrivateLink, VPC peering, service endpoints, egress policy). - **OpenTelemetry** pipelines to multiple destinations. - Building managed services. - Isolated execution environments for untrusted code (e.g., **Firecracker**, microVMs). - Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field (or equivalent practical experience). --- ## Compensation & Equity **United States:** **$170,350 – $275,550 + equity** --- ## Perks & Benefits - **Remote-first**; work from home with offices in Seattle and Paris for connection. - Flexible schedule with trust to manage time while delivering results. - Generous PTO, quarterly “Whaleness Days,” and an end-of-year Whaleness break. - Home office support. - Technology stipend (~**$100 net/month**). - Learning & development stipend. - **16 weeks paid parental leave** after six months. - Comprehensive benefits (medical, retirement, paid holidays vary by country). - Equity for all full-time employees. --- ## Equal Opportunity Docker is an equal opportunity employer co
