**Micro-Intern: Software Engineer (IAP - Alumni Host)** **Location:** On-site; Boston/Cambridge, MA **Dates:** Full-Time; January 4, 2027 – January 29, 2027 **Compensation:** $20–25/hr --- ## About the Company Cartesian is building spatial intelligence for indoor environments to drive operational efficiency—solving in-store inventory visibility for the $35T global retail industry. Their platform delivers accurate indoor positioning and actionable product location insights, helping retailers streamline operations, optimize workflows, and reduce inefficiencies. Founded in 2023, Cartesian is scaling a live product deployed in over a dozen countries. --- ## About the Role You’ll help scale the platform and develop new features to meet product demand. This is an on-site internship in Kendall Square (near the Red Line stop), designed for full-time focus during IAP. You’ll work alongside senior engineers and ship code to real customers. --- ## What You’ll Do At the start of IAP, you’ll define a specific project with ownership throughout the internship. You’ll learn quickly, clarify ambiguity, and iterate on feedback weekly. **Potential project areas include:** - **Customer Expansion:** Build robust interfaces for data and users with international retail brands. - **Platform:** Modernize the stack with Infrastructure-as-Code and upgrade the core Postgres platform for performance and resilience. - **Research Tooling:** Support ML development infrastructure and collect fast, accurate edge-device sensor data. - **Security and Tooling:** Implement short-lived machine-to-machine credentials, harden identity/access, and automate key rotation. - **UI/UX:** Improve interactions between the product and the physical world—more seamless, ergonomic, and beautiful. - **Optimization:** Instrument and measure cloud platform costs to optimize infrastructure and development efficiency. - **Testing:** Build full-stack test infrastructure across physical devices, mobile, and backend.
