We’re a globally distributed, remote-first team building the tools that define how software is built and delivered—now with AI-native development practices at the core. **ROLE: Senior Software Engineer, Billing** The Billing Platform Engineering team owns the systems that make Docker’s commercial model real. You’ll help keep billing infrastructure reliable and observable, define what “safe, AI-assisted infrastructure operations” look like in practice, and set standards for the rest of the team. **WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON** - Designing infrastructure that supports AI-generated deployments with safety and easy rollback - Instrumenting billing systems so failures (billing miscalculations, entitlement gaps, payment errors) are detected immediately and clearly - Building infrastructure that scales with usage-based billing workloads without manual intervention - Improving developer experience across local environments, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment tooling **RESPONSIBILITIES** - Own and evolve infrastructure supporting Billing Platform services (compute, storage, networking, CI/CD, observability) - Design and maintain IaC (Terraform) for billing infrastructure on AWS; develop module patterns and standards - Build and own observability systems (metrics, logging, alerting) focused on billing accuracy and payment reliability - Implement deployment patterns and runbooks for an AI-agent-assisted workflow (rollback procedures, safe promotion gates, automated validation) - Partner with software engineers on service design to bring operational constraints into the conversation early - Identify systemic risks and drive improvements, including cross-team work - Participate in incident response; may require on-call rotation outside standard business hours - Mentor engineers and raise the bar for how the team builds and operates **QUALIFICATIONS** - 6+ years in platform, infrastructure, or SRE roles supporting production SaaS at scale - Strong AWS expertise (ECS/EKS, RDS—Postgres preferred, networking, IAM, cost management) - Experience operating systems under real load and real incidents - Strong Terraform skills, including reusable module patterns
