With **200,000+ developers** and **1,300+ organizations** building “Powered by Deepgram” voice offerings, Deepgram’s voice-native foundation models are available via cloud APIs and as self-hosted/on-premises software. ### Operating Rhythm - **AI-first mindset**: AI use and comfort are core to how work is done. - **Experimentation is expected**: actively use, test, and even build AI tools into everyday workflows. - **Move at the pace of AI**: rapid change—your day-to-day will evolve quickly. ### The Opportunity Deepgram is seeking **seasoned Data Scientists** to join **Research Staff** and help build an industrial “data factory” to power the next generation of Voice AI systems—enabling models that go beyond transcription to capture nuanced meaning in complex conversations and generate more human-like, contextualized speech. ### The Role As a Member of the Research Staff, you’ll collaborate with product, engineering, and data teams to **build and deploy scalable models** for voice APIs, bringing expertise from experiments and pushing the boundaries of voice technology. ### The Challenge (What We’re Looking For) - Treat **“unsolved” problems** as opportunities to pioneer new approaches - Identify the **critical experiment** that validates or kills an idea in **days, not months** - Scale successful proofs-of-concept by **100x** - Use AI to **automate and amplify** your own impact ### What You’ll Do - Build **high-performance data acquisition, preparation, and synthesis pipelines** for next-gen speech/language foundation models - Develop **advanced characterizations** of conversational audio using signals processing + deep learning - Partner with **DataOps and Engineering** to automate labeling and incorporate feedback from model outputs - Create **benchmarking methodologies** and **curated datasets** for evaluating conversational voice systems - Document and present data experiment results for internal and external audiences ### You’ll Love This Role If You - Enjoy making sense of **complex/messy data** - Like building **from the ground up** and creating new systems - Are passionate about AI and using data to solve hard problems - Want to **scale your impact** through automation and AI models ### It’s Important to Us That You Have - Experience building **end-to-end data processing pipelines** (acquisition, characterization, cleaning, serving, transformation) - Strong statistical and deep learning experience for complex data - Clear communication skills to explain complex ideas simply - Software engineering skills in **Python**, with emphasis on clean, modular code and **PyTorch** ### Nice to Haves - Background in **Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Language Processing** - Experience building models - Speech and audio experience ### Safety Note Deepgram warns about impersonation: legitimate recruiting communication comes from an **@deepgram.com** email address.
