About this role

**Senior Software Engineer, FinOps** **About Box** Box (NYSE: BOX) is the leader in Intelligent Content Management. Our platform helps organizations collaborate, manage the full content lifecycle, secure critical content, and transform business workflows with enterprise AI. **Why Box needs you** Box’s FinOps team provides visibility into cost and usage across public cloud, SaaS, and AI—equipping finance and executive leadership with insights for informed decisions (including earnings communications). As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you’ll own the design and development of the systems behind this work. You’ll join a cross-functional team of software engineers, data engineers, site reliability engineers, and data scientists, reporting to a Senior Engineering Manager. This is a technical leadership role combining hands-on engineering with broader influence—building and operating forecasting, monitoring, and alerting systems, and helping advance how engineering teams across Cloud Operations develop software. **What you’ll do** - Own forecasting, monitoring, and alerting systems for cloud, SaaS, and AI cost and usage (including goals, design, delivery planning, and outcomes). - Build and maintain the full technology stack: data pipelines, processing engines, backend services, APIs, and frontend applications. - Design scalable systems that integrate cleanly with others, evaluating trade-offs as complexity grows. - Establish and publish engineering practices (design review, testing, code review, documentation, release processes) and coach engineers until they’re consistently adopted. - Trace cost and usage anomalies to root cause and communicate findings (including trade-offs) to engineering partners, finance, and executive leadership. - Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, reviewing all output before it reaches a forecast, dashboard, or shared practice. - Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to and triage issues. **Who you are** - 5+ years building production software; strong proficiency in **Python** and **Django**, plus frontend experience in **React** and **JavaScript**. - Experience designing and delivering **APIs**, and scaling/integrating systems across complex environments. - Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (**GCP preferred**, AWS also valued) and **Kubernetes**, including CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment. - End-to-end ownership of a component—from design and implementation through testing and production operations. - Experience leading cross-team projects and making design decisions with incomplete information; track record of improving how teams build software through standards, delivery processes, or coaching. - Clear communication with engineering, finance, and executive audiences, including financial readouts. **Work location / culture** Box is an AI-first company. Boxers are expected to work from their assigned office a minimum of **3 days per week**. **Equal opportunity** Box is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. Reasonable accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities. **Pay transparency (Redwood City)** **$198,500 — $248,000 USD** Actual base salary (or OTE if commissionable) depends on factors such as knowledge, skill level, experience, and work location. This role is also eligible for equity and benefits.
