Weekend Systems Engineer

About this role
**THE ROLE** Our trading platform runs on high-performance servers across datacenters and offices worldwide—and these systems don’t stop when the markets close. We’re looking for engineers who combine hands-on technical execution with high-stakes risk management to ensure infrastructure health and stability during non-standard business hours. You’ll be the primary point of accountability for deferred maintenance and triage that can’t be completed during peak weekday trading. You’ll also serve as the front line for production issues in 24/7 markets, with escalations as needed. **Schedule** - Full-time, with flexibility for **5 standard days (Thurs–Mon)** or **4 longer days (Thurs–Sun)** **RESPONSIBILITIES** - Analyze, diagnose, and resolve **Linux-based server** issues - Create, test, deploy, and maintain **packages, batch files, and scripts** for the OS environment - Identify opportunities to optimize for **lower latency** and improved efficiency - Manage **move/add/change** requests and configuration updates - Liaise with internal technology groups and **vendors** to deliver optimum solutions - Assist with long-term infrastructure strategy and **capacity planning** **THE CANDIDATE** - **1+ years** background in **Linux/Unix administration** - Strong scripting ability (**Python, Bash**, etc.) - Strong understanding of networking protocols and topology (**NFS, DHCP, IP, TCP, UDP, TFTP, NTP**) - Knowledge of **Kickstart, Ansible, Git** - Experience with **package management** **WHY VIRTU** - Make an impact in a highly visible role - Opportunity for upward and geographic mobility - Direct exposure to decision makers and senior business leaders - Significant investment in the technology department - Teams focused on continuous learning and raising the bar - A community that values both hard work and work-life balance After passing an initial resume screening, candidates will be sent an online **Linux Systems** test. *Virtu Financial is an equal opportunity employer, committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
