This orchestration layer turns workflows, tools, and guardrails into a **reliable, low-latency, delightful** experience for end users. You’ll work on the **agent harness**—including routing, execution logic, tool orchestration, and control-plane systems that determine how an agent behaves in a live conversation. The team operates across: - **Real-time systems** (e.g., voice interactions with strict latency requirements) - **Longer-horizon execution** (supporting complex reasoning and workflows) They continuously analyze real-world failures, build feedback loops via offline evaluation and online experimentation, and iterate quickly to improve **quality, reliability, and capability**. ## About the Role — Staff Software Engineer (Agent Platform) As a **Staff Software Engineer** on the Agent Platform team, you will design and build the systems that govern how Decagon agents operate in real-world environments. You’ll own complex, distributed systems at the heart of the agent runtime, including: - **Execution frameworks** - **Model orchestration logic** - **Experimentation platforms** to ensure agents are fast, reliable, and continuously improving This role directly impacts how agents reason, take actions, and deliver outcomes across millions of interactions. ### What you’ll do - Design and evolve **agent harnesses** that power different product experiences - Build core runtime systems, including **AOP execution** and **multi-model orchestration** - Develop control-plane logic for routing, execution, and safety/guardrails - Diagnose production issues, design new system abstractions, and run experiments to improve agent behavior - Collaborate with **Research, Infra, and Product** to ship improvements safely and at scale
