**Staff Software Engineer — Billing (Full-Stack)** Elation is a cloud-based clinical platform for independent primary care practices—so doctors can spend their time on patients, not paperwork. We’re hiring **full-stack engineers for our billing team**. Billing is complex: we ingest data from insurers and partners who follow standards differently, and we need to make billing simple for customers while chasing down every dollar we can across denials. We’re also using **LLMs** to automate work currently done by hand—so you’ll **design, build, and run these systems yourself**. --- ## What the work looks like - Build systems that balance financial transactions between **insurance, patients, and the practice**—maximizing reimbursement while removing complexity. - Work with inconsistent data from external partners and handle edge cases well. - Ship **AI features** that real users depend on, including figuring out when they’re wrong. - Improve a mature codebase while customers use it every day. - Own your work in production and partner with **Support** when something breaks. - Collaborate with **Product and Design** to identify improvements and ship rapidly. ## Your first 60 days - Ship something to production. - Scope and build a new feature with Product and Design. - Learn the stack and enough of the billing domain to be functional. - Join code reviews and production support. - Engage with customers and learn from their feedback. ## 6–12 months in - Own big features end-to-end (deployment, monitoring, and adoption insights). - Help set technical direction for problems you own. - Become the go-to person for resolving production issues quickly and explaining solutions clearly. --- ## Who we’re looking for - You like owning a problem **from start to finish**. - You think about failure modes before shipping. - You can distinguish between a proper fix vs. a quick workaround. - You don’t need prior healthcare billing experience, but you’re eager to learn and ask lots of questions. - You can explain technical trade-offs to non-engineers. - You already use AI tools in your own work. --- ## Requirements ### Essential - **5+ years** professional software development (**8+ for Staff**, including technical leadership) - Production experience building and running **backend services and APIs** - Comfortable working across the stack and in **more than one language** - Experience with **alerting/observability/instrumentation** for real production systems - Clear communicator with technical and non-technical stakeholders - Interest in building with **LLMs** ### Nice to have - Experience building production features with **LLMs / ML** - Data-driven mindset - **Python and/or PHP**, and **MySQL** - **TypeScript and React** - Payments, financial, or ledger systems - Event-driven/distributed systems on **AWS** - Observability and DevOps - US healthcare experience (medical billing/claims) --- ## Remote & Location - Engineering team is **fully remote** - Open to candidates in the **US, Canada, and New Zealand** ## Salary - **$170,000 – $200,000 USD / $185,000 – $215,000 CAD** --- ## Everyone is welcome We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive engineering team.
