About this role
## Anduril Industries — Mission Systems Lead (Omen) ### About the Team Anduril is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. Omen is Anduril’s hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle (AAV), designed to deliver the endurance, payload, and mission flexibility of much larger airplanes in a runway-independent platform. Omen can operate from ship decks, beaches, or remote island clearings—enabling true runway independence across defense and civilian domains. ### About the Job You will lead the technical development and integration of Omen’s Mission Systems—from initial concept through delivery—covering **mission perception**, **mission autonomy**, and **payload systems**. You’ll partner with program leadership, other Anduril product teams, and third-party system vendors to deliver fully integrated mission systems tied to customer inputs, with traceability to program office technical decisions. ### What You’ll Do - **Own customer success** through the design and delivery of fully operational mission systems for a new Anduril platform (Mission Perception, Mission Autonomy, and Payloads). - **Build and lead the Mission Systems team**: hire and manage multi-disciplinary engineers, mentor software engineers, and set team norms, technical standards, and review practices. - **Define and own the technical roadmap** across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons—balancing delivery with architecture investments. - **Mission Autonomy:** own the software stack enabling autonomous execution of customer-defined missions, including mission design/planning/operation/debrief tooling and operator command & control. - **Mission Payloads:** own integration of payload modules with the host mission system stack (power, bandwidth, timing, and autonomy interfaces), including passive/active sensors and launched effects, electronic warfare payloads, and more. - **Mission Perception:** own sensing and world model development, plus safe and assured navigation (including GPS-denied operation and recovery to moving or austere landing sites). - **Lead demonstrations** of autonomy, payload operations, and perception kits from lab to surrogates to Omen. - **Partner with Vehicle Software** on interfacing requirements between Vehicle Management System and Mission System stacks. - **Drive architecture selection and design** for robotic mission systems (hardware, compute, storage, network), with explicit consideration of modular open systems approaches. - **Define and own ICDs** (Interface Control Documents) governing integration with third-party and government-furnished payload vendors. - **Travel** to support test events, vendor collaboration, end-user engagements, and/or co-locate with other teams (up to **25%**). ### Required Qualifications - Experience as a **Senior or staff robotics or software development engineer** - Experience managing engineering teams in a high-performing technology organization - Experience developing and sustaining distributed software platform/application architectures under dynamic network topologies - Proficiency with **Python** and modern systems/application languages (e.g., **C++**, **Rust**) - Deep understanding of autonomous systems (perception and payload capabilities across commercial and military mission sets) - Experience across the product delivery lifecycle (manufacturing, system acceptance, deployment, sustainment) - Familiarity with vehicle management systems and syste
