## Senior / Staff Robotics Security Software Engineer **Company:** Saronic Technologies **Focus:** Security controls for an autonomous surface vessel fleet (edge, mesh/network, and cloud) --- ### Job Overview Saronic is seeking a **Security Software Engineer** to design, implement, and harden security controls across the company’s autonomous vessel fleet. This role spans: - **Edge compute** on the vessels - **Networks/communications** between vessels and to the cloud - **Cloud orchestration** that manages the fleet at scale You’ll work hands-on in a **Rust-first** ecosystem on **NixOS-based embedded Linux** platforms, building security features that ship to production and operate reliably in real-world maritime environments. --- ### Responsibilities **Edge** - Design and implement **secure boot**, **hardware roots of trust**, **trusted execution environments** - Implement **rollback protection** - Build **secure update / OTA delivery pipelines** for vessel compute **Middleware & Mesh** - Implement **per-vessel identity** and **mutual authentication** for vessel-to-vessel and vessel-to-cloud links - Manage **certificates**, **key rotation**, and **revocation workflows** - Protect message integrity against **replay and spoofing** over intermittent, bandwidth-constrained, and contested links (satellite, cellular, mesh radio) **Cloud Orchestration** - Build and maintain **cryptographic services** bridging vessel and cloud infrastructure - Harden **identity & access controls**, **secrets & key management**, and **containerized workloads** **Platform & Lifecycle** - Secure **NixOS** configurations using Nix’s declarative/reproducible model - Drive **vulnerability management** across third-party crates and dependencies - Embed security into **CI/CD** from build through deployment **Collaboration** - Partner with autonomy, platform security, manufacturing, and field teams to embed security requirements early - Collaborate with enterprise/application security teams on **threat modeling**, **risk assessment**, and **incident response** **Engineering Excellence** - Contribute to architecture/interface design docs and participate in code/design reviews - Build reusable security tools/libraries/instrumentation, using automation and AI-assisted approaches --- ### Qualifications - Bachelor’s or Master’s in **Computer Science**, **Software Engineering**, or related field - **3+ years** security software engineering experience (autonomy/robotics/embedded preferred) - **Staff Engineers:** **8+ years** security software engineering experience (architecture, cross-functional leadership, or platform ownership) - Proficiency in **Rust** and/or **C/C++**, plus hands-on experience securing **embedded Linux** - Strong understanding of cryptographic primitives/protocols (keys, certificates, signatures, TLS, mutual TLS) and integrating them into real systems - Experience with **hardware security modules**, **secure boot**, and system-level software (kernel/bootloader) - Familiarity with networking protocols and IPC/message-passing frameworks - Knowledge of **DoD standards/regulations** is advantageous - Prior work on autonomous systems is a plus; real-time systems experience is a plus - Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to collaborate cross-functionally --- ### Physical Demands - Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer - Occasional standing/walking within the office - Manual dexterity to operate office equipme
