Software Engineer, Interfaces
Anduril Industries · Waltham, Massachusetts, United States
About this role
## About Anduril Anduril Industries is a defense technology company on a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by **Lattice OS**, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a real-time, 3D command and control center. ## About the Team The **Imaging team** builds and fields state-of-the-art camera and sensor systems deployed to solve real security challenges for the United States and its allies. The team works across the full stack—from bare-metal hardware and firmware to networked services and cloud integrations—and owns systems through to the field. When something breaks in a deployed environment, the team fixes it. ## About the Role Anduril is looking for a **Mission Software Engineer** to join the **Imaging Interfaces** team. This is **not** a pure product development role. You’ll spend meaningful time: - Keeping **fielded systems** alive - **Triaging issues** across the full stack - Serving as a **technical representative** for integrations with external teams and customers The work is varied and sometimes ambiguous—e.g., extending a **gRPC service**, diagnosing a **time sync issue** with a field operator, or traveling to support a **customer integration**. ## What You’ll Do - **Own fielded system success:** Responsible for health and uptime of deployed imaging systems; triage, diagnose, and drive resolution across code, firmware, network, or hardware. - **Build and maintain production services:** Develop and extend modular software services running on edge-compute devices in austere environments; ensure reliability, observability, and maintainability. - **Support field operations:** Work directly with field operators and non-technical users to diagnose and resolve issues; communicate clearly under pressure. - **Represent the team externally:** Act as a subject matter expert for integrations with other products and teams (remote and on-site). Speak credibly across the full system stack. - **Maintain end-to-end system understanding:** Build broad fluency across hardware, firmware, networking, and software; optimize service interactions and degrade gracefully when components fail. - **Collaborate across teams:** Plan, build, and test complex functionality alongside firmware, hardware, and platform engineers. - **Travel:** Approximately **25%** of the time for field testing and customer integrations. ## What We’re Looking For ### Required - **3+ years** of software development with meaningful **production ownership** (own systems after they ship: health, uptime, and behavior in users’ hands). - Deep proficiency in at least one of **C++**, **TypeScript (Node.js/React)**, or **Python**, plus ability to work effectively across the stack boundary in a second language (reading, debugging, modifying code). - Comfort ramping quickly into unfamiliar languages, tools, and deployment systems. - **3+ years** working in **Linux-based environments**, including hands-on work with **bare-metal hardware**. - Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve issues across system boundaries (networking, services, hardware interaction) without always having full visibility. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical problems to non-technical audiences. - Eligibility to obtain and maintain a **U.S. Secret clearance**. ### Preferred - Experience with performance-sensitive, real-time, or resource-constrai
