## Software Engineer — Ingestion Execution Platform ### About the role At Snowflake, we’re building the always-on ingestion execution platform behind Snowflake ingestion. This multi-tenant control plane powers pipeline lifecycle, durable work queues, single-owner execution, step orchestration across control plane and compute, multi-tenant scheduling, source monitoring, and cluster topology. You’ll build the substrate other ingestion teams ship on—improving reliability, fairness, and efficiency at the layer where it matters most. ### What you’ll do - **Design and ship core platform capabilities** (e.g., multi-tenant isolation, fair scheduling, ownership & placement, durable queues, source monitoring, compute allocation). Own the work from design through production. - **Strengthen isolation and fairness** by building/evolving primitives such as quotas, backpressure, resource accounting, and intelligent placement. - **Raise reliability and observability** to improve availability and latency for pipeline health, ingest APIs, and compute allocation. Instrument systems so behavior is visible and actionable. - **Build a clean platform surface** so product teams can express pipelines and processing steps consistently on shared primitives. - **Scale the control plane** for more concurrent pipelines, higher ingest volume, and efficient compute/metadata usage as customer demand grows. - **Operate what you ship**: participate in production support, improve observability, automate operational work, and mentor junior engineers. ### What we’re looking for - **3–6+ years** building and operating large-scale distributed systems or cloud infrastructure in production. - **End-to-end ownership**: you designed, shipped, and operated something hard that other teams depend on. - **Strong Java proficiency** (Java-first). C++/systems experience is a plus. - Experience with at least one of: - multi-tenant control planes - durable queues / at-least-once processing - distributed locking / leases / membership - cluster scheduling - streaming/ingest execution engines - **Correctness under failure**: thoughtful about crashes, retries, redelivery, and exclusive ownership. - **Clear written and verbal communication** and ability to argue technically without ego. - **BS/MS/PhD** in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. ### Bonus points - Experience building internal platforms used by multiple product teams (orchestration, job/runtime frameworks, multi-tenant schedulers). - Background in multi-tenant isolation/fairness (resource accounting, throttling, quotas, load-aware placement). - Hands-on with transactional/consensus-backed metadata stores (e.g., etcd, ZooKeeper, Spanner-style systems). - Familiarity with open table formats (Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake), Kafka-style streaming, or warehouse scheduling. - Performance work at scale (tail latency, memory/thread accounting, I/O batching, cost-per-unit efficiency). - Experience using **AI as a serious engineering collaborator** (design review, debugging, test generation) and evidence it improved speed without lowering the bar. ### Apply How do you want to make your impact?
