**About Affirm** At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most. **Team: Data & Storage Services (Lakehouse Infra)** The Data and Storage Services team owns Affirm’s data infrastructure across OLTP and OLAP systems, including: - Online checkout databases - Batch orchestration - Streaming infrastructure and event-driven frameworks - BI and analytics tooling - Large-scale data platforms - Agentic data tools (e.g., semantic layers and internal platform data applications) The **Lakehouse Infra** team’s vision is to provide **reliable, scalable, self-serve, Affirm-optimized offline data access** to enable **ML, Product, and Financial Engineering** success. You’ll help host the data infrastructure that serves as a backbone for processing business-critical money and loan movement workloads across Affirm’s batch and analytics ecosystems. **What you’ll do** - Own and deliver quarterly goals; lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems while ensuring everyone is supported through delivery. - Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics—participate in ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs. - Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues; advocate for them and lead solutions. - Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating/monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” and on-call efforts. - Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting/improving code review and design standards; advocate beyond the team via writing and tech talks. - Help develop talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. **What we look for** - 4+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like **Python** or **Kotlin**. - Track record building **highly available distributed systems** using **AWS**, **MySQL**, and **Kubernetes**. - Experience scaling relevant technologies such as **Iceberg**, **Flink**, **Airflow**, **Spark**, **Kafka**, **Snowflake**, and **Terraform**. - Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature/system component with an elegant, simple, extensible design; write high-quality code others can easily understand and use. - Proficiency making significant changes in a large codebase, with tools/practices that enable safe iteration. - Demonstrated ownership of growth—proactively seeking feedback from your team, manager, and stakeholders. - Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team. - Requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. **Compensation & Location** - Pay Grade: **N** - Equity Grade: **9** - USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): **$195,000 – $255,000** - USA base pay range (all other U.S. states): **$173,000 – $233,000** - **#LI-Remote** **Remote-first & Benefits** - **Remote-first with flexibility built in**: Most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment; some roles may occasionally require in-person work or be office-based.
