**SpaceX — Manager, Software Engineering, People (Application Software)** SpaceX is building the technologies to enable human life on Mars. The People software team develops and maintains mission-critical systems that power SpaceX’s People operations—keeping employee, payroll, and HR data accurate, reliable, and secure as the company scales. **What you’ll do** - Manage all aspects of the software supporting People operations, including HRIS, payroll, time and attendance, benefits, recruiting, employee master data and org structure, and integrations connecting People with finance, identity, facilities, and other teams. - Ensure successful execution on core goals: reliability, data accuracy, privacy, auditability, and scalability—aligned with stakeholder needs and future architecture as headcount grows. - Provide strong technical leadership and strategic guidance; continuously raise the bar on engineering and quality of execution. - Drive iteration speed with a focus on capability-based deliverables. - Set priorities, plan work, and make tradeoffs on what matters most at any given time. - Own prioritization, implementation, and delivery of the system roadmap. - Collaborate across the department and company to ensure clean end-to-end data flows, strong controls, and that People systems keep pace with the business. - Directly manage a team of software engineers and software engineering leads. - Attract, onboard, and retain diverse top talent; coach, mentor, and support team development. - Conduct weekly 1:1s, goal setting, feedback conversations, and semi-annual performance reviews to support well-being, team health, and growth. **Basic Qualifications** - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science + 5+ years of software development experience, **or** 7+ years of professional software development experience in lieu of a degree. - 1+ years of experience with direct report management for a software engineering team. **Preferred Skills & Experience** - 5+ years developing full-stack (web server, database, and client-side: HTML/JavaScript/CSS) and CI/CD. - Programming experience in Python, C#, .NET, Go, Java, or similar object-oriented languages. - Front-end experience with Angular, React, or similar JavaScript frameworks. - Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar databases. - Experience building or integrating with HRIS, payroll, or talent systems. - Experience with sensitive employee data, privacy, auditability, and access controls (SOX-aware payroll systems a plus). - Domain expertise in areas such as HRIS/employee lifecycle, payroll/time/benefits platforms, HRIS/payroll platforms (e.g., Workday, UKG, SAP SuccessFactors, ADP), and People data integrations/reporting. - Up-to-date with current web development trends. - Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals applied in real-world systems.
