**Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Retail DEX)** Ready to do the most impactful work of your career? Coinbase is hiring a **Senior Software Engineer** to join the **Retail DEX** team within the **Consumer & Business** group. This team powers the data and trading systems behind onchain (“DEX”) trading in the main Coinbase app—enabling millions of traders to buy and sell **70M+ tokens** across major blockchains including **Base** and **Solana**. You’ll build systems that connect the off-chain and onchain worlds to deliver a seamless, unified trading experience. **What you’ll do** - Integrate new blockchains, decentralized exchanges, and launchpads into the main Coinbase app to unlock more onchain assets - Design and implement first-party smart contracts for onchain trading primitives (e.g., DEX aggregation and advanced order types) - Scale real-time data pipelines to handle **100K+ messages/second** with **millisecond-latency** processing - Optimize the trading stack end-to-end for fastest execution, optimal fills, and comprehensive asset coverage - Drive iteration on agentic-first development patterns (self-improving systems and tooling to accelerate team velocity) **Required Skills and Experience** - **5+ years** backend software engineering experience; proven success building/operating data systems or pipelines in production - Hands-on experience designing data-intensive systems and integrating with large-scale infrastructure such as **Kafka, ClickHouse, StarRocks, Temporal, Redis** - Proven experience designing/integrating onchain smart contracts on **EVM (Ethereum, Base)** or **Solana** with deep understanding of one or more VM programming models - Demonstrated ability to build, iterate on, and improve agentic-first code repositories and systems in production - Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality **Pay Transparency Notice** - **Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $186,065 — $218,900 USD** - Total compensation may include equity and bonus eligibility, plus benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)) **Additional Notes** - **Application limit:** Maximum of **3 applications within a 6-month period** - Coinbase is an **Equal Opportunity Employer** - **Accommodations:** If you need a reasonable accommodation, email **accommodations[at]coinbase.com**
