Coinbase is remote-first (remote-only isn’t the model), with quarterly in-person “surges.” **About AI Foundations** AI Foundations builds shared infrastructure that helps teams across Coinbase use AI securely, reliably, and cost-effectively. This includes the LLM Gateway and model routing, MCP Gateway for agent access to tools, knowledge/context services, evaluation infrastructure, and AI discovery & spend tooling—so teams don’t have to rebuild the same foundation. **What you’ll do** - Lead AI Foundations engineering, owning hiring, coaching, technical direction, prioritization, and delivery across shared AI services. - Partner with Product and senior engineers to balance rapid model/agent innovation with reliability, security, developer experience, and cost. - Own engineering-side vendor relationships and operational readiness; partner with Security, Legal, and Finance on AI governance and spend controls. **Required Skills & Experience** - Own the “Neutral Foundations” pillar of Coinbase’s AI Tooling Strategy; establish a 2027 strategy and roadmap. - Drive operational excellence of AI primitives/services. - Deliver LLM Gateway and MCP Gateway; pave the way for model routing and evaluations. - Grow the next rung of leadership on AI Foundations. **Pay Transparency** - Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): **$253,895 – $298,700 USD** - Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, plus benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)). **Additional Notes** - **Application limit:** Candidates may submit a maximum of 3 applications within a 6-month period. - **Equal Opportunity Employer:** Coinbase considers qualified applicants without regard to protected characteristics; applicants with criminal histories are considered consistent with applicable laws. - **US applicants:** View Employee Rights, Know Your Rights, and E-Verify notice. - **Accommodations:** If you need a reasonable accommodation, email **accommodations[at]coinbase.com**. - **Data Privacy & Arbitration:** By submitting your application, you agree to the Candidate Privacy Notice (and arbitration terms for US applicants).
