We’re revolutionizing the accounting space with modern, user-friendly tools—and we focus on delighting customers, spotting and solving problems, and being good people along the way. **The Opportunity** We’re hiring a **Senior Database Engineer** who takes real pride in databases that run well and enjoys writing great SQL. You’ll own a fleet of roughly **100 Postgres databases**, obsess over **query performance**, and be opinionated about **schema design** for a modern SaaS platform. You’ll work closely with developers, product managers, and QA to shape data models and keep the platform fast and reliable. **What You’ll Do** - Oversee maintenance of **100+ managed databases** to ensure performance, security, and reliability - Monitor database health, identify bottlenecks, and recommend actionable improvements - Own **database cost and capacity planning** (right-sizing, forecasting, and deciding where to invest) - Use performance/growth trends to scale for busy season and scale back when needed - Refine and refactor database structures to follow best practices and improve data access - Own **index and query health** (analysis, slow query review, index coverage/bloat, autovacuum tuning, connection pooling) - Advise on and implement modern database best practices to improve reliability and efficiency - Collaborate on complex query optimization and database migrations - Serve as the **database reviewer** on squad design docs (sign-off on data models, schema changes, and query patterns) - Lead initiatives to minimize downtime during database maintenance - Mentor and train others on database insights and optimizations - Develop and communicate SQL “best practices” to engineering teams **Your Skills Include** - **5+ years** as a Database Engineer managing and optimizing databases - **5+ years** writing SQL and experience with relational databases—**specifically PostgreSQL** - Strong ability to diagnose performance issues and drive solutions - Proven experience implementing database best practices with minimal downtime - Experience with managed cloud database infrastructure (**RDS preferred**) - Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset - Passion for data integrity, accessibility, and building scalable solutions with real customer impact **Bonus Skills** - Experience with **data warehousing** / analytics and reporting - Proficiency in programming languages (Python and/or Java/Kotlin are a plus) **Why You Want to Work Here** - 🌴 **Flexible Paid Time Off** (encouraged to use) + **10 company holidays** - ❤️🩹 **Health Benefits** (Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA match; Canopy covers Medical premiums at 100% for employees) - 💰 **401(k)** match 100% up to 3% (immediate eligibility with 100% vesting) - 🧠 **Mental Health** support via Impact Suite + EAP - 👶 **Paid New Parent Leave** + **Birthing Parent Leave** - ➕ Supplemental benefits (Basic Life/AD&D + long/short-term disability) - 🌟 **Motivosity** peer recognition program - 🥳 **Company Events** (monthly meetings, summer parties, and more) - 💡 **DEIB Committee** for education, outreach, recruiting, onboarding, and more - ☕ **Fully-stocked kitchen** (dietary-friendly options) **Our Values** - 🔑 **Own** — outcomes matter; we hold ourselves (and each other) accountable - 🏆 **Win** — delight customers
