About this role
**Staff Engineer — User Management (Identity & Access)** **About AlphaSense** AlphaSense helps the world’s most sophisticated companies remove uncertainty from decision-making. Using AI-powered market intelligence and search, we deliver insights that matter from trusted content—covering equity research, company filings, event transcripts, expert calls, news, trade journals, and customer research. In 2024, AlphaSense acquired Tegus, advancing our mission to empower professionals with AI-driven market intelligence. Together, we’re expanding product and content capabilities for deeper insights across thousands of content sets. AlphaSense is trusted by 6,000+ enterprise customers, including a majority of the S&P 500. **About the Team** The User Management team owns the full identity lifecycle at AlphaSense: - **User Management** — creating, provisioning, and managing user identities - **Authentication** — verifying who users are - **Authorization** — determining what users can do in the system We’re a **platform team**—building the identity and access infrastructure other engineering teams build on—while also acting as a **security guardrail**. The team is based in **Helsinki, Finland**, and we’re expanding into **North America** for follow-the-sun coverage. **About the Role** This **Staff Engineer** role manages identity and access for AlphaSense’s entire, growing customer base—supporting user and entitlement data used by nearly every product engineering team. You’ll work across all three pillars of identity (users, authentication, authorization) and design systems that scale securely as usage grows. Security is core to the role: you’ll partner closely with security teams to build **secure-by-design** systems in an environment governed by **SOC2** and **GDPR**. **Who You Are** You’re a genuinely senior, self-sufficient engineer with strong experience building and operating identity, authentication, or authorization platforms at scale—ideally in a platform / product-platform context. You don’t just execute roadmaps; you help shape the needs behind them and drive execution largely autonomously in close collaboration with the Helsinki-based team. You’re interested in security, comfortable partnering with security teams, and able to work effectively in a distributed, cross-timezone setup. **Tech Stack / Experience** - **Backend:** Java 2X, Spring Boot 3.x, WebFlux, Maven - **Data & APIs:** SQL, GraphQL, gRPC, REST - **Cloud & Infrastructure:** AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Helm - **Identity & Security Protocols:** RBAC/ABAC/ReBAC; OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT; SAML 2.0 & enterprise SSO federation; SCIM - **Engineering Practices:** event-driven architecture patterns; TDD and/or strong automated testing **Nice to Have** - Auth0 - SpiceDB / Zanzibar-style authorization - Apollo Federation - OpenTelemetry - Experience in SOC2 and/or GDPR-compliant environments **What You’ll Do** - Design, build, and evolve our **authorization platform** (RBAC/ABAC/ReBAC) to answer: *“What can this user do?”* - Design, build, and evolve our **authentication platform**, working closely with our Auth0 integration - Design, build, and evolve our **user management platform** (user identities + entitlements) supporting the entire customer base - Partner with security teams to ensure platforms are **secure by design** and aligned with **SOC2** and **GDPR** - Build highly scalable systems for a constantly growing number of users and customers - Help define the long-term roadma
