About this role

## Senior Engineering Manager, Game Experience (GAMEX) **Location:** Remote (Eligible US locations) ### About the role As the Senior Engineering Manager for the **Game Experience (GAMEX)** team, you’ll lead a senior group of engineers building **Zwift’s core game loop**—from new gamified experiences and competitive racing systems to **real-time physics** and experiences built on our widely-deployed **game controller ecosystem**. You’ll navigate technical and product ambiguity, drive alignment across cross-functional partners (game design, product, program/producers, UX, engineering, QA), and ensure our **cross-platform C++** features are fun, engaging, and perform seamlessly across **desktop, mobile, and Apple TV**. You’ll balance strategic leadership with deep technical stewardship: guiding architectural decisions, setting a high bar for engineering quality, and fostering an environment where engineers can grow, deliver predictably (without crunch), and do their best work. ### What you’ll do - **Lead and support a senior engineering team:** Directly manage **6–8 engineers**, including coaching, career development, performance management, and hiring—while building a culture of high-autonomy engineering excellence. - **Drive technical architecture:** Provide technical oversight for **C++ gameplay systems**, partnering with engineers to ensure scalable, maintainable designs, strong cross-platform performance, memory management, and long-term technical health. - **Own the end-to-end SDLC:** As a live-service game, you’ll ensure operational excellence in production—championing automated testing, feature flagging, phased rollouts, and real-time telemetry. - **Drive predictable delivery:** Lead agile team processes (e.g., Scrum/Kanban) to plan, iterate, and deliver reliably. Manage incoming requests, own the roadmap, unblock the team, mitigate risks, and keep stakeholders informed. - **Navigate ambiguity:** Align across engineering, game design, product management, program/producers, UX, QA, and hardware to establish clear technical strategy and milestones. ### What we’re looking for - **4+ years** in software engineering management (e.g., Engineering Manager, Technical Director, or Lead Programmer/Engineer), with experience directly managing/coaching/growing engineers in the games industry. - **6+ years** hands-on software engineering in game development, with deep fluency in **C++** and commercial/custom game engines. - Strong understanding of **game performance**, profiling, memory management, and multi-platform architecture. - Experience operating and maintaining features in a **live-service** environment with high production quality and operational monitoring (phased deployments, feature flags, support). - Ability to independently define technical strategy and team roadmaps while navigating ambiguity and cross-team dependencies. - Proven ability to lead game engineering teams using modern agile practices to run sprints, mitigate delivery risks, and establish reliable release schedules. ### Bonus points - Experience integrating game clients with **backend services**, persistence layers, and cross-platform mobile ecosystems (iOS/iPadOS/Android). - Console game development experience, including performance/stability optimization on constrained platforms. - Experience integrating modern, AI-assisted development tools while maintaining auditability, maintenance, and scalable usage of agentically generated code. - Experience building gam
