## Senior Software Engineer, Certificate Management ### About Coinbase Coinbase is remote-first (remote-only not required). You’ll collaborate in-person quarterly for intense working sessions called **“surges.”** ### Role Summary As a **Senior Software Engineer** in the **Security Platform Engineering** group, you’ll be the primary execution anchor for Coinbase’s most critical **regulatory and cryptographic** initiatives. This team owns Coinbase’s **Public and Internal Certificate Management** systems—the foundation for many Coinbase systems. You’ll lead development of **high-availability services** for certificate needs both internally and with external partners. ### What you’ll do - Lead the architecture and execution of critical cryptographic infrastructure - Define multi-quarter technical strategies and bring clarity to ambiguous requirements for novel cryptographic solutions - Own risky, ambitious initiatives—implementing secure, resilient cryptographic protocols in a high-stakes, **zero-trust** environment - Serve as a technical anchor and mentor: drive rigorous code reviews and eliminate single points of failure - Build alignment and secure commitment across **Security, Product, and Policy** to ensure flawless execution ### Required Skills & Experience - **5+ years** of software engineering experience building highly available, distributed systems - Deep expertise in **PKI** and applied cryptography, including operating certificate authorities, automating **X.509** certificate lifecycles (issuance, renewal, revocation, trust-chain distribution), and protecting private keys with **HSMs** or **cloud KMS** - Strong systems programming experience (e.g., **Golang, Java, C++, Rust**), with ability to operate in a **Golang-heavy** environment - Proven experience operating **Tier-0 / highly critical** infrastructure where resilience, security, and low latency are essential - Demonstrated ability to lead technical strategy, architecture, and deliverables for large-scale projects, including navigating regulatory requirements - Responsible use of **generative AI** with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality ### Location / Work Style - **#LI-Remote** ### Pay Transparency (Base Salary Range) - **$186,065 – $218,900 USD** (excluding equity and bonus) ### Notes - **Application Limit:** Maximum of **3 applications within a 6-month period** - **Equal Opportunity Employer:** Coinbase considers qualified applicants without regard to protected characteristics - **Accommodations:** If you need a reasonable accommodation, email **accommodations[at]coinbase.com**
