About this role

**Senior iOS Engineer — Citizen (New York, in-office daily)** ## About Citizen Citizen is the #1 safety app in the U.S. Thousands of videos are captured live at real incident scenes and distributed in real time to people across major American cities. The iOS app is where it all lands: alerts, maps, live video, one-tap broadcasts, and the Premium/Protect experiences that fund the mission. ## What you’ll do You’ll **own real pieces of the iOS app** and ship them with a small team (human + agents). You’ll be an exceptional iOS engineer first—then use agents as a second pair of hands to move faster while maintaining the quality bar required for a **real-time safety product**. You’ll work across areas such as: - **Live video & broadcast**: capture/upload/playback of live video, including the one-tap “I am live” path; latency & reliability under real network conditions. - **Real-time alerts & map**: push notifications that arrive in seconds, accurate/battery-aware location & geofencing, and a fast map with many live incidents. - **Paid experiences**: Premium, Protect, onboarding, paywall, and experiments. - **Operator tooling**: internal mission control tooling that lives in the iOS repo. - **App health & release**: cold start, battery, memory, crash-free sessions, behavior on one bar of signal, phased rollout, crash triage, and hotfixes. ### Ownership includes - **Instrumentation**: register analytics events, verify they land in the warehouse, and ensure the funnel matches what the app actually produced. - **Agent loop**: draft/review/test/instrument iOS code with agents; extend the existing iOS repo capabilities; propose where agents can run without a human (with policy gates for safety). ## How work is organized - **Driver/Builder model**: each initiative has one accountable **driver** who owns scope, sequencing, and tradeoffs. - **Release Captain (rotational)**: iOS ships weekly. When it’s your week, you run the release end-to-end and land high-priority bug fixes on a severity-based timeline (typically **1–2 days**). ## Tech stack - **Swift 6 (strict concurrency)** - **The Composable Architecture (TCA)** - **Modular Swift Package Manager** codebase - Weekly release train with phased rollout, crash triage, and a defined hotfix path ## Your first 90 days - **Days 1–30**: Use the app daily in New York; go live; read the codebase; ship to production in week one; shadow a Release Captain week; identify the top 3 user-impacting issues and start on the first. - **Days 31–60**: Run your first Release Captain week solo; drive an end-to-end initiative; land a measurable improvement in performance or reliability; take over an existing agent loop, extend it, and propose the first part to run without a human. - **Days 61–90**: Ship the first piece of the reinvented product to real users; present a roadmap for what you own with supporting numbers. ## How success is measured - Crash-free sessions, cold start, and battery impact (against your plan) - Time from alert creation → notification on device; live video start time - Release cadence and time to land high-priority fixes during your Release Captain weeks - Day-1/Day-7/Day-30 retention and paid conversion on surfaces you ship (with Product/Design) - Event coverage & accuracy in the warehouse - Cycle time from idea → App Store on your surfaces (improving as agent loops take on more work) ## Who you are - You’ve shipped and **owned** a consumer iOS app used by millions; you can point to what y
