We’re building with IKEA to create more opportunities for people to earn consistent, meaningful income on their own terms. **Role: Senior Full Stack Engineer (AI Innovation)** Join Taskrabbit’s remotely distributed AI full stack team. You’ll help improve the reliability, performance, and maintainability of critical financial infrastructure—directly shaping how customers and taskers experience money. Our AI & Innovation team is a new incubator for AI projects focused on improving the client experience (e.g., how clients discover, describe, and book help). We move quickly: scope, build, and prove ideas. Once validated with high-impact results, projects are handed off to teams best positioned to own them long-term. **Key Responsibilities** - **Architect:** Define the multi-quarter technical roadmap for AI & Innovation (backend, frontend web client, etc.) with engineering leadership—driving strategy, addressing tech debt, and evolving scalable architecture, APIs, and data models. - **Tech Lead:** Lead complex, cross-team technical initiatives. - **Solver:** Translate ambiguous, high-stakes business goals into clear technical strategies, designs, and experiments. - **Multiplier:** Serve as a JavaScript subject-matter expert; champion high-quality testing and AI practices; mentor engineers; produce durable technical documentation. - **Champion AI-Driven Development:** Lead adoption of **Spec-Driven Development (SDD)** using advanced AI tools—ensuring specs become robust, scalable **Node.js** implementations with comprehensive test suites. - **Spec-Driven Development (SDD):** Ensure consistent translation of precise specs into resilient Node.js implementations and thorough test suites. **Requirements** - 5+ years professional software engineering with a mix of frontend and backend experience; demonstrated impact (leading complex domains, influencing multiple teams). - Extensive experience with **Node.js** and **microservice architecture** (Ruby on Rails is a plus). - Strong **SQL** and data modeling experience (**Postgres, Snowflake**). - Hands-on experience with **async/event-driven systems** (e.g., **Kafka**) and microservices. - Proven track record designing and owning **observability/alerting** for critical systems. - Mastery building, debugging, and scaling **distributed systems**. - Excellent communication, ability to influence without authority, and strong ownership for systems handling money and trust. **Bonus Points** - Experience with **Spec Driven Development**. - Hands-on experience with **AI tools**. - Experience rebuilding **legacy software systems**. - Familiarity with microservice and event-driven architectures at scale. **Compensation & Benefits** - Base pay range: **$130,000 – $180,000** (base pay only; excludes bonus/benefits/perks). - Total compensation includes base pay + bonus + benefits + perks. - Benefits vary by country of employment. **Hybrid / Location Notes** - This role is **hybrid**: **2 days in office** at the San Francisco hub every **Tuesday & Wednesday** (130 Sutter St, San Francisco, CA). - Taskrabbit is currently **unable to provide visa sponsorship** (including H-1B, OPT, F1, CPT, or other employmen
