We’re a small, fast-moving team backed by Accel and Y Combinator—intentional, direct, and deeply focused on solving real customer problems. --- ## Why this role Cinder’s **Core Infrastructure** team builds the platform and infrastructure that helps judge the safety of much of the user-generated content on the internet. As Cinder has grown, Core Infra has become responsible for critical pieces that underpin workstreams across the product—without a dedicated leader to organize that work. This is a **people and coordination role** at its core. You’ll take a group of strong, self-directed engineers and ensure they’re working on the most important things, with clear priorities and clean coordination across the company—so effort isn’t wasted on collisions or unclear ownership. You’ll report to the **Head of Engineering** and help shape how engineering leadership scales. --- ## What you’ll work on You’ll own the **health, direction, and delivery** of the Core Infra team. The team owns systems the rest of engineering builds on, including: - Graph service - CI/CD - Core developer tooling In practice, you’ll: - **Set clear priorities and a roadmap** your team understands (including what we’re choosing *not* to do). Translate business context into focused execution. - **Own the interface** between Core Infra and the rest of the company: run intake, ensure transparent triage/routing/prioritization, and serve as the default liaison to GTM, FDE, CX, and other cross-functional partners. - **Raise the bar on execution**: implement the right level of process to keep velocity and quality high as the team grows. - **Coach and develop engineers**: set clear expectations, provide direct constructive feedback, and ensure people know how they’re progressing and where to grow. - **Drive operational rigor proactively**: help define SLIs/SLOs, get ahead of reliability and tech-debt issues, and reduce incident risk. > This role is about organizing and leading a senior team and owning priorities/coordination—not being the lead architect or top IC. --- ## What we’re looking for - **8+ years** building production software, with **at least 4 years** in a startup environment, managing platform engineers directly. - Deep familiarity with **high-throughput, data-intensive systems**, workflow/automation engines, or **AI-powered platforms** in production; experience managing full-stack engineers. - A track record of driving a **high-performing team** with clear priorities and sufficient process, grounded in metrics. - **Technical credibility** with a senior team: lead architecture/trade-off discussions, review work, and earn respect from staff-level engineers. - Fluency and strong opinions on how **AI tooling** changes how teams build. - Experience setting roadmaps/priorities in ambiguous, f
