Senior Mobile Engineer, BLE & Device Connectivity (iOS/Android)
Beaconbiosignals · Boston, MA / Remote
About this role
**Beacon Biosignals — Senior Mobile Engineer, BLE & Device Connectivity (iOS/Android)** Beacon is transforming precision medicine for the brain—building at-home EEG and precision diagnostics platforms that help improve how patients are diagnosed and treated. As a **Senior Mobile Engineer focused on device connectivity**, you’ll build and own the **native iOS and Android BLE layer** that connects Beacon’s **EEG headbands and other wearables** to the apps patients and clinicians rely on. Your work will directly impact how reliably we capture **high-fidelity data** in homes, clinics, and trial sites. --- ### What success looks like As part of our small, mission-driven Mobile Apps Team, you will: - Lead development of our **native iOS and Android BLE device SDKs** - Own **connection reliability**, **data throughput**, and **battery performance** across phones, OS versions, and real-world environments - Partner with our **Devices team** on firmware interfaces, **GATT profiles**, and device behavior - Expose device capabilities to **React Native** via clean, well-tested native modules - Own **observability** for device connectivity using telemetry and field feedback to identify and fix failure modes - Help shape the **roadmap and technical direction** of our mobile platform **In your first 3–6 months, you might:** - Improve **BLE pairing and reconnection reliability** across iOS and Android - Increase **streaming robustness** for EEG data (including recovery from dropped connections and backgrounding) - Build device-side support for an in-app feature that validates **EEG signal quality** before capture - Add diagnostics to help **Clinical Operations** troubleshoot device issues in the field --- ### What you will bring You’ll be a great fit if you have: - **8+ years** of mobile development experience, with extensive native experience on **iOS (Swift) and/or Android (Kotlin)** - Hands-on experience integrating **BLE peripheral devices** into production apps (pairing/bonding, reconnection, background operation, data throughput—e.g., **Core Bluetooth** / Android BLE APIs) - Experience with **sensor integration** or streaming **health data** from wearables - A rigorous approach to **reliability** (edge cases, device fragmentation, performance) - Strong communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative, async environment **Bonus points if you’ve:** - Built production **React Native** apps, or written native modules for React Native or Expo - Worked with **TypeScript** and the broader stack (React Native, Expo, GitHub) - Worked with **medical devices**, EEG, or wearables - Worked on apps for **clinical trials**, patients, or other regulated environments - Contributed to **open source mobile or BLE** projects --- ### Location / Work style - Robust **remote work** practices - In-person office hubs in **Boston** and **New York** - Considering candidates **anywhere in the US Eastern time zone** --- ### Compensation - **Salary range:** **$150,000 – $190,000** - Base salary is one component of total compensation (includes equity, PTO, and other benefits) --- If you’re excited to build reliable BLE connectivity that enables high-quality clinical data at scale, we’d love to hear from you.
