This role is for builders and owners who move with speed and urgency and execute with excellence. --- ## About the team **Okta’s Workforce Identity Cloud Security Engineering group** is looking for an experienced and passionate **Software Security Engineer** to design and develop security solutions that harden Okta’s frameworks and infrastructure. You’ll help prescribe **defense-in-depth** measures, enforce **least privilege**, and improve Okta’s security posture—without adding friction to product functionality or performance. --- ## What you’ll do - Act as a **liaison** between Engineering, Security, and Product to develop innovative requirements for the **security roadmap** - **Evangelize security best practices** across the engineering org - Research, design, implement, and **own security-oriented frameworks and features** to protect Okta customers - Participate in **cross-vertical code reviews** with an emphasis on security - Break down complex problems into sub-tasks; **prototype rapidly** and iterate using agile practices - **Coach and mentor** junior engineers --- ## Preferred qualifications & abilities - **8+ years** designing and implementing software systems in **Java** for reliable, mission-critical applications - **4+ years** designing and implementing **security solutions** for applications and distributed systems - Strong understanding of **Application Security**, **Cryptography**, **Authentication/Authorization**, and **Certificates & Secrets Management** - Experience with **AWS** and/or **GCP** - Experience with **RDBMS** (e.g., **MySQL**), including replication/clustering; familiarity with **Redis** and **Elasticsearch** - Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation (e.g., cookbooks, design/architecture docs) - Knowledge of **Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC)** and cryptographic migration strategies - Experience designing, developing, and securing **production-grade agentic AI systems** (autonomous and multi-agent architectures) - Proven ability to troubleshoot and fix production issues affecting **reliability, security, and performance** - Strong leadership and communication skills (written and verbal) - Strategic problem-solving for ambiguous, large initiatives - **B.S. or M.S.** in Computer Science or related field --- ## Additional requirements (U.S. eligibility) - Must be on **U.S. soil** (50 states, DC, or outlying U.S. areas as defined by FAR 2.101) and be a **U.S. person** - **Working on a U.S. visa does NOT qualify** as a U.S. person --- ## Compensation (base salary) - **San Francisco Bay area:** **$194,000–$267,000 USD** - **Other listed locations (CA excluding SF Bay, CO, IL, NY, WA):** **$174,000–$239,000 USD** Okta also offers **equity (where applicable)**, bonus, and benefits (health, dental, vision, 401(k), flexible spending, paid leave including PTO and parental leave). --- ## The Okta Experience - Supporting your well-being - Driving social impact - Developing talent and fostering connection + community Okta is an **Equal Opportunity Employer**.
