**Software Engineer, Backend (Security)** **About Base** America's next-generation power company rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization through distributed battery networks and grid resilience. **About the Role** Build the Identity Provider and Authorization platform that secures access across Base's internal apps, cloud infrastructure, and field devices. Own the platform layer transforming fragmented access into a single, auditable identity system. **Key Responsibilities** • Build and operate Okta as workforce identity provider (SSO, SAML/OIDC, SCIM, lifecycle automation) • Design authentication policy (MFA, device assurance) and authorization primitives (RBAC, least-privilege roles) • Federate cloud access through AWS IAM Identity Center and GCP Workforce Identity Federation • Define entitlements-as-code in GitOps monorepo with pull request reviews • Build workload identity infrastructure (private CA/PKI, AWS Roles Anywhere, hardware-backed key custody) • Define Identity Assurance Level requirements per NIST SP 800-63-3 • Partner with IT, security, and application teams on shared identity foundation **What You'll Bring** • Strong backend engineering in Go, Java, or similar systems language • Experience designing/operating identity systems (SSO/IdP, authn/authz, entitlements, workload identity) • Working knowledge of OIDC, SAML, and SCIM • Comfort with cryptographic primitives (PKI, mTLS, hardware-backed keys) • High ownership, clear communication, and ability to make durable decisions in ambiguous environments **About the Team** The Identity Provider and Authorization team builds and operates workforce identity, federate cloud/internal access, define entitlements as code, and issue workload identity from a governed PKI.
