## Scientific Software Developer ### Overview Peraton is seeking a **Software Systems Engineer** to support the **Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) ocean modeling team** at the **Stennis Space Center (Mississippi)**. ### Responsibilities - Support **scientific software development** using **METOC simulation pipelines**, **data assimilation systems**, and **HPC** to develop and optimize Navy ocean models (including **HYCOM** and **NCODA**). - **Develop, test, and debug** scientific software using **Fortran, Python, and C++**. - Integrate with Navy-specific systems such as **NCOM** and **NCODA-var** to improve model performance and support transition from research to operational use. - Improve **model coupling** and enhance **data assimilation** techniques. - Create and maintain **comprehensive software documentation**. - Contribute to **technical reports and publications** as needed. ### Qualifications - **5 years** with **BS/BA** or **3 years** with **MS/MA** - **Secret security clearance** **Must have demonstrated experience with:** - **METOC simulation pipelines** and **real-time data assimilation systems** - Modern programming languages: **Fortran, Python, Java, C, C++, Assembly, Matlab** - Linux environment & scripting: **Bash/KSH, Perl, NCAR Command-Language** - Scientific software development/deployment practices, including: - **MPI**, **PBS/Slurm** - Tools/IDEs: **Netbeans, Eclipse, Vi** - Automation/config: **Ansible** - Version control: **Git/SVN** - Compilers/build: **GCC/Gfortran, IFX/ICC/Ifort, make** - Data formats/libraries: **NetCDF, BUFR, GRIB1/2** - Debugging/performance: **GDB, Valgrind** - OS: **Linux/Unix** - Modern documentation practices: **Javadocs, pydocs, Pod, manpages**, and custom help menu frameworks (KSH/Perl/Python/Fortran) - Navy ocean modeling & data assimilation systems: **NCOM, NCODA-QC, NCODA-prep, NCODA-var** - Executing Navy scientific modeling/data assimilation systems on **HPC platforms** - Debugging Navy scientific modeling/data assimilation computer codes ### Location **Stennis Space Center, Mississippi** ### Target Salary Range **$80,000 – $128,000** (varies based on experience, education, skills, location, and contract/business factors).
