## Database Administration Specialist - Oracle (In-Person) ### Overview Valero is seeking a **Database Administration Specialist (Oracle)** to join the **DBA team**. This is an **on-site, in-person** role in a collaborative environment, supporting business applications by **building and operating database infrastructure**. ### Key Responsibilities - Build and operate database infrastructure for business applications (primary focus: **Oracle**, plus **SQL Server** and **Postgres**) - Perform **Oracle/SQL Server DBA** tasks including **maintenance, tuning, and database architecture** - **Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and operate** databases to maintain **availability, performance, and compliance** - Proactively identify and troubleshoot issues, researching solutions with a **root-cause** focus - Work hands-on across the full DBA lifecycle: **installation → tuning → standards development → documentation** - Ensure proper use of **indexes and database objects** to enable required functionality - Partner with developers to tune using appropriate tools and achieve acceptable performance - Coordinate with infrastructure teams to ensure monitoring provides a complete readiness view - Analyze and recommend complex solutions across information system infrastructure components - Contribute to software development processes and standards; **occasionally lead** projects/tasks - Work independently with minimal supervision; may require **off-hours/weekend** support and **some travel** ### Key Competencies - Problem Solving - Initiative - Results Orientation - Interpersonal Skills - Attention to Detail ### Minimum Requirements - **Bachelor’s degree** in MIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent) - **5+ years DBA experience** with: - **Oracle 12c or higher**, or - **SQL Server 2016 or higher** - Experience tuning **PL/SQL** or **T-SQL**; comfortable working across **Windows and Linux** - Ability and willingness to work **on-site at Valero (San Antonio location)** ### Preferred Requirements - Experience with **Oracle Enterprise Manager / Cloud Control** - **Windows PowerShell** scripting - Experience with **SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)**, **Reporting Services (SSRS)**, and **Policy Management** - Experience with **Postgres** and **Kubernetes** ### Additional Notes - **Salaried exempt** role (not eligible for overtime) - All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a **TWIC card**; employees must wear it at all times while working at the refinery - Pre-employment includes a **background check** and **hair-analysis drug screen** - Position level and salary are **commensurate with qualifications and experience** ### Benefits (Highlights) - Competitive pay and annual bonus program - **401(k) match up to 7%** (100% match with immediate vesting) - Company-sponsored pension plan - Comprehensive healthcare and wellness programs - Onsite daycare; onsite wellness centers (physician & pediatrician) - Onsite pharmacy; 24-hour fitness center - Onsite cafeteria; campus amenities (walking paths, biking trails) *Valero is an EEO employer.
