Our culture is built on iteration: use AI to ship faster today, improve tomorrow, and share every improvement across the team. ### Available Locations **Lisbon or London (Hybrid)** ### About the Role Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI) is where new and bold products are built and released within Cloudflare. On the **Agentic Discovery** team, you’ll help enable autonomous AI agents to interact with the web by building capabilities that make domains: - **Readable** (structured content transformation) - **Discoverable** (indexing and AEO) - **Callable** (WebMCP, tool-calling APIs, Generative UI) You’ll serve as a technical anchor and subject matter expert—defining architecture, core protocols, and multi-team standards for the next generation of agent-web interactions. You’ll shape roadmaps, mentor engineers, and write technical specifications that drive execution across multiple teams. ### Responsibilities - **Architect and ship core systems:** Build high-throughput, resilient production services enabling Readable, Discoverable, and Callable experiences for autonomous agents. - **Define emerging agent protocols:** Lead integrations and protocol standards (MCP, MCP Apps, UCP, MPP, WebMCP). Author architectural specifications and technical designs. - **Partner with product & stakeholders:** Translate customer needs into technical requirements, clarify KPIs, and shape engineering roadmaps. - **Drive system health & observability:** Improve reliability, lead complex incident responses, run post-incident retrospectives, and rearchitect to eliminate recurring failure modes. - **Engineering leadership & governance:** Raise engineering standards through mentorship, code reviews, architectural governance, and hiring candidate evaluation. ### Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Experience - **Distributed systems & architecture:** Scalable system design and performance metrics in high-scale environments. - **Technical leadership & specification:** Clear, comprehensive technical specs and leading cross-functional initiatives to completion. - **Web & network fundamentals:** HTTP, APIs, proxies, caching, web security, and performance bottlenecks across multi-service architectures. - **AI agent ecosystems:** Hands-on understanding of AI agents, tool calling, MCP, or agent harnesses. - **Ambiguity & iterative delivery:** Ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces with product and customers and deliver large-scale architecture iteratively. - **Mentorship & operational excellence:** Mentoring engineers, contributing to hiring, and improving engineering processes and incident response workflows. ### Bonus Points - **Modern edge/runtime expertise:** Async Rust or TypeScript/JavaScript edge runtimes (e.g., Cloudflare Workers) at scale. - **Open source & protocol contributions:** Contributions/leadership in agent frameworks, protocols (e.g., MCP), web standards bodies, browser engines, or network proxies. - **Incident resolution track record:** Resolving complex, multi-team production incidents and driving post-mortem recommendations t
