Android Software Engineers in Consumer Engineering work with Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Backend Engineers, and other mobile engineers to build, experiment with, and scale experiences for hundreds of millions of users. **High-impact consumer teams you may support:** - **Core Product & Feeds:** Home Experience, Recommendations & Content Discovery, Contribution - **Community & Presence:** Reddit Pro, Youth Experience & Teen Safety, Creator Tools - **Growth & Engagement:** Authentication, Notifications, Social Sharing, SEO, Onboarding - **Monetization & Conversion:** Paid User Acquisition, Conversion Funnel Optimization - **Identity & Security:** Account Management, Trust & Safety ## What You’ll Do - Build and evolve **user-facing Android experiences** that help people discover, consume, create, and engage with content and communities. - Lead projects through the full development lifecycle—from **product definition and technical design** to implementation, experimentation, launch, and ongoing improvement. - Partner with product, design, data science, ML, backend, and platform teams to shape strategy and deliver **measurable user impact**. - Improve **Android architecture, performance, reliability, accessibility, developer workflows, and engineering standards**, while mentoring teammates and driving cross-functional technical initiatives. ## Who You Might Be - An experienced Android engineer who has built and shipped **consumer-facing native apps at scale** using **Kotlin**. - A strategic, product-minded partner who connects technical decisions to **user and business outcomes** and can lead through ambiguity. - A clear, collaborative communicator who can explain complex tradeoffs, influence stakeholders, and build alignment. - Curious, adaptable, and ownership-oriented—embraces experimentation, learns from setbacks, improves processes, and helps others succeed. ## Technical Qualifications - Professional experience developing native Android applications with **Kotlin**, with strong understanding of Android frameworks and application architecture. - Ability to write **idiomatic, readable, reusable, and testable** code; strong debugging, performance optimization, reliability, and maintainability skills. - Experience designing mobile systems and interfaces; evaluating architectural tradeoffs; building scalable features from **APIs through user-facing UI**. - Experience with experimentation, feature flags, instrumentation, analytics, and product/quality-of-experience metrics. Familiarity with **Jetpack Compose**, **Android accessibility**, **Media3/ExoPlayer**, **MediaCodec**, **HLS/DASH**, recommendation systems, or ML-integrated products is a plus. ## Pay Transparency (US) - **Base salary range:** **$164,200 — $229,900 USD** - In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for **equity (RSUs)** and, depending on the position, **commission**. - Reddit also offers benefits to US-based employees including medical, dental, vis
