About this role
## Platform Engineer II, Foundation ### About the role Platform Engineering at Chainalysis provides the shared infrastructure, tooling, and developer experience layer that powers every engineering team. The **Foundation** discipline owns the substrate: **cloud infrastructure, networking, Kubernetes, streaming, and security primitives**. You’ll be an infrastructure-focused IC (typically **C4**) responsible for building, improving, and operating the infrastructure primitives that every service depends on—such as **Kubernetes clusters, cloud networking, streaming infrastructure (Kafka / WarpStream), secrets management, IAM, and reconcilers** that keep systems self-service and drift-free. You’ll work alongside senior engineers who will pair with you, review your work, and invest in your growth. You’ll report to the **Senior Manager of Platform Engineering**. ### What you’ll do - Build and maintain cloud infrastructure across **AWS and GCP** using **Terraform** (designing modules/patterns and thinking about how they’re consumed across the organization) - Operate and evolve **multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters (EKS)** for the entire engineering organization - Own node lifecycle, upgrades, security contexts, and networking decisions affecting all teams - Own the operational side of the streaming infrastructure migration from **managed Kafka (MSK) to WarpStream**, including tooling support - Contribute to platform tooling and **reconcilers** that underpin the platform contract model - Write **Go**, work with the **Kubernetes API**, and build high-quality self-service primitives - Design and maintain foundational **networking and security infrastructure** - Transit gateways, GCP interconnect, ingress, security groups, IAM policies, **IRSA** - Participate in on-call rotations and drive operational excellence - Respond to incidents, write/improve runbooks, and feed incident patterns back into AI automation so issues don’t repeat ### What we’re looking for - **3+ years** of platform engineering experience - Hands-on experience with **AWS** services (e.g., EC2, EKS, IAM, S3, VPC, or similar) - We’re looking for people who have built and operated real infrastructure—not just certifications - Working knowledge of **Kubernetes in production** (operated/deployed workloads beyond local environments) - Infrastructure-as-code experience (**Terraform strongly preferred**; Pulumi or CloudFormation acceptable) - Proficiency in at least one of **Go, Python, or shell scripting** - Go is preferred (reconciler work is in Go), but you should be able to ramp as needed - Comfort with **CI/CD** and hands-on on-call/incident response - Understanding what it means to be accountable for production systems ### Nice to have - Experience building Kubernetes **operators/controllers** (CRDs, reconcilers, controller-runtime) - Familiarity with streaming infrastructure (Kafka/WarpStream) or depth in networking (VPCs, transit gateways, ingress, DNS, load balancing, security groups) - Experience in regulated environments (e.g., SOC 2, ISO-27001) and/or familiarity with **GitOps** (ArgoCD, Flux) - A passion for platform engineering that reduces toil and increases other engineers’ productivity ### Technologies you’ll work with - **Languages:** Go, Python, Bash/Shell, HCL (Terraform) - **Cloud:** AWS (EC2, EKS, IAM, S3, VPC, Lambda), GCP - **Infrastructure as Code:** Terraform - **Kubernetes:** EKS, Helm, CRDs, controller-runtime - **Streaming:** Kafka, WarpStream
