About this role
**Software Engineer — AI-Native Full Stack** **Bolo AI** **Location:** Bay Area (Hybrid) | Salt Lake City Area (Remote) **Type:** Full-Time Senior Engineer --- ## The Role Has Changed At Bolo.ai, three-person engineering teams are building what used to take thirty—by working differently. Engineers don’t just write code; they write **precise specs** that agents can implement correctly, build **harnesses** and **CI gates** that mechanically prevent common agent mistakes, and design **validation systems** where agents write tests and humans verify features work from the user’s perspective. The **code is a generated artifact**. Engineers maintain the **spec**, the **harness**, and the **validation infrastructure**. --- ## The Company Bolo AI is building the AI company for **heavy industry**—energy, utilities, manufacturing, and industrial operations. These sectors have been underserved by modern software and AI for too long, and Bolo is changing that with AI built for messy, high-stakes operational reality. Customers use Bolo to catch critical equipment failures, recover hidden cost impact, automate operational workflows, and put decades of industrial data to work. Backed by **True Ventures, Benchstrength, Accomplice, Analog Ventures, and Beat Ventures**, Bolo is a small, AI-native team working close to the customer. --- ## The Work You’ll spend your time on four things: - **Specifications**: Write behavioral specs, architectural constraints, and feature requirements that agents implement against. When output misses the mark, tighten the spec by defining what “correct” means more precisely. - **Harness**: Build and maintain infrastructure that keeps agents producing reliable code—structural tests, linting rules, CI gates, structured knowledge bases, and mechanical fixes so mistakes don’t recur. - **Validation**: Agents write code and tests; you verify features work from the user’s perspective under real deployment conditions, including edge cases that matter in production. Diagnose failures across the spec, harness, and agent implementation. - **Architecture and operations**: Design modular abstractions and clean interfaces across cloud providers and on-prem environments. Own production systems in regulated environments where reliability, observability, and graceful degradation matter. --- ## What Makes Someone Good at This - **7+ years of engineering experience**, applied at a higher altitude—deep enough to design harnesses, anticipate edge cases in specs, and diagnose failures across the full stack. - **Systems thinking over code fluency**: understand how components interact, how failures cascade, and what breaks when requirements change. - **An agent-driven workflow**: you already direct AI agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar) or have the judgment and motivation to transition. - **Experience building infrastructure around agents**: CI enforcement, scenario-based testing, documentation systems agents can consume, structured knowledge bases. - **Comfort making decisions with incomplete information** in a startup where requirements shift. - **Direct communication**: honest feedback, clear disagreement, and commitment to outcomes. - **Enthusiasm for a field that reinvents itself quarterly**—tools and best practices evolve fast. --- ## About Us - Small, senior-leaning engineering team with real ownership and direct impact. - Sustainable pace over heroic sprints. --- ## What We Offer - **Competitive compensati
