At Pinterest, AI is a powerful partner that augments creativity and amplifies impact. **About the Role (AI Platform)** The AI Platform team delivers essential tools and infrastructure used by hundreds of AI/ML engineers across Pinterest—powering recommendations, ads, visual search, growth/notifications, and trust & safety. The team focuses on production-grade quality and rapid iteration. As a **Senior Staff Software Engineer, AI Platform**, you will shape and scale Pinterest’s AI/ML evaluation platform into a unified, reliable system adopted company-wide. You’ll modernize the roadmap, execute technical strategy for durable evaluation of GenAI and ML workloads, and partner across engineering, research, product, and safety to improve quality, launch decisions, and trust in AI-powered experiences. **What you’ll do** - Identify modernization opportunities and scale the roadmap for a company-wide evaluation system with technical leadership - Define cross-team technical strategy, align partner teams, and drive adoption of shared evaluation capabilities - Make durable architectural decisions that improve user experience and reliability - Establish evaluation methodologies and standards balancing automated metrics, expert judgment, human feedback, safety, and business outcomes - Lead complex cross-team workstreams, resolve technical tradeoffs/risks, and deliver impact **What we’re looking for** - 3+ years designing and operating evaluation systems for GenAI and complex ML systems (benchmark design, golden datasets, automated metrics, human evaluation, model-based grading, failure analysis) - Strong Python programming skills and solid distributed systems fundamentals; comfortable iterating with AI tools for coding/design - Familiarity with GenAI/RecSys evaluation libraries and frameworks (e.g., AutoEvals, OpenEvals, Ragas) - 5+ years building scalable platforms for distributed experimentation, data/model versioning, orchestration, observability, release management, and production monitoring - Strong judgment around GenAI risks (robustness, bias, privacy, security, and limitations of automated evaluation signals) - Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering (or related) or equivalent experience **In-Office Requirement** - Collaboration style varies; this role requires in-office presence **1–2 times per quarter** for in-person collaboration. - Can be situated anywhere in the country. **Relocation** - This position is **not eligible for relocation assistance**. **Compensation (US)** - Base salary range: **$208,592 – $429,454 USD** - Equity eligibility may apply **Inclusion Commitment** Pinterest is an equal opportunity employer.
