## Applied AI Engineer, Public Sector ### About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. ### About the role As an **Applied AI Engineer** on the Applied AI team, you’ll support a **national security mission program**. You’ll act as the customer’s trusted technical advisor, partnering with engineering and mission teams to **design architecture**, **develop evaluation frameworks**, and guide **cutting-edge LLM implementation patterns** powered by **Claude**. You’ll work closely with **Sales, Product, and Engineering** to guide the customer from **technical discovery** through **successful deployment**—often **on-site** in secure environments. ### Responsibilities - Serve as a specialist technical advisor for national security mission programs (discovery → evaluation → deployment/adoption), coordinating across internal teams to drive customer success - Support customers building with **Claude Code**, the **Claude API**, and **Claude for Enterprise** - Partner with account executives and Applied AI Architects to translate mission requirements into technical solutions - Influence technical architecture and integration into the customer’s existing stack via customized pilots, prototypes, and evaluation suites - Help develop evaluation frameworks to measure Claude’s performance for mission-specific use cases - Lead hands-on technical workshops and code reviews with customer engineering teams - Identify common design patterns and share insights with Product and Engineering teams - Create and deliver technical content (engineering deep dives to executive briefings) - Maintain strong knowledge of the latest LLM capabilities, implementation patterns, and AI product development stacks - Work primarily **on-site** with customer engineering and mission teams in secure government facilities, while maintaining close internal coordination and feedback ### Minimum qualifications - **Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph** - Prior experience working within **US intelligence community agencies** as a government civilian or cleared contractor - **4+ years** in technical roles (e.g., Forward Deployed Engineer, Product Engineer, Software Engineer, Technical Product Manager) with a desire to work closely with customers - Strong programming skills (proficient in **Python or TypeScript**) and experience building production applications - Hands-on expertise in one or more: - Offensive/defensive cyber operations (vulnerability research, reverse engineering, ICS/OT security) - Cryptography and cryptanalysis - Intelligence analysis and ISR (all-source, SIGINT, GEOINT) - Mission and weapons systems (command and control, space, electronic warfare, autonomy) - CBRN and nonproliferation - Accreditation of classified systems (RMF, ATO, cross-domain solutions) - Exceptional communication skills to convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders (engineers to executives) ### Preferred qualifications - Production experience with LLMs (prompt engineering, agent development, evaluation frameworks, transcript analysis, MCP, and deployment at scale) - Experience deploying/operating software in **air-gapped or classified environments** - Experience designing scalable cloud architectures and integrating with enterprise systems - Background in AI/ML/data science - Ability to navigate ambiguity and execute across domains with intellectual openness - Strong cross-organ
