About this role
## FPGA Engineer — Host & Network IO Team Cerebras Systems builds large-scale AI hardware designed to deliver industry-leading training and inference speeds. The Host and Network IO Team develops the full IO path between distributed server nodes, through the cluster, down to Cerebras’ custom RoCE network stack, and over proprietary IOs onto the WSE. As an FPGA developer on this team, you’ll own the in-chassis IO subsystem, including: - Cluster-facing **RoCE v2** network interfaces with a custom RDMA protocol implementation - A large **programmable switching fabric** - **Serial IO** communication with the Cerebras WSE via a proprietary protocol You’ll collaborate across AI application-level IO teams, cluster architecture teams, and embedded software teams to optimize **bandwidth and latency** while minimizing congestion and related performance issues. ### Responsibilities - Lead full **chassis-to-wafer IO architecture and design** - Improve current **RTL**, implement **next-gen FPGA** designs, and define future IO architectures - Produce **production-ready bitstreams** for large clusters running customer inference services - Partner with the **DV team** to prevent bug slips and simplify debug - Optimize **bandwidth/latency** across FPGA datapath and all IO interfaces - Interface with the **board team** for board bringup - Drive **network performance debug** for large AI clusters - Integrate leading-edge networking technologies and protocols - Lead cross-functional technical projects across multiple teams - Foster clear communication across teams and stakeholders ### Skills & Qualifications - **5+ years** industry experience delivering production FPGA solutions, **or** a **Master’s/PhD** in Computer or Electrical Engineering + **3 years** industry experience - Proficiency in **Verilog** in a **Git-based** repository - Strong FPGA skills: **placement & routing**, **timing closure**, **simulation**, **debug**, and FPGA tool workflows - Network protocol familiarity (e.g., **TCP**, **RoCE**) and network debugging tools (e.g., **Wireshark**) - Knowledge of network switch environments (e.g., **Arista**, **Juniper**) or willingness to learn - Experience working in an **AI-augmented development environment** ### Why Join Cerebras - Build a breakthrough AI platform beyond GPU constraints - Publish and open-source cutting-edge AI research - Work on one of the fastest AI supercomputers in the world - Startup vitality with job stability - A simple, non-corporate culture that respects individual beliefs *Apply today and help deliver next-generation AI infrastructure.*
