**Director, Machine Learning Engineering, Ads Quality** **About the Role:** Lead a broad portfolio of Ads Quality modeling teams focused on engagement, conversion, ROAS optimization, ranking, representation learning, and ML-powered experimentation. Shape and drive unified technical strategy across Ads Quality, overseeing teams responsible for engagement ranking, oCPM and conversion modeling, ROAS optimization, lightweight ranking and retrieval models, foundation model adoption, and production ML system quality. **Key Responsibilities:** • Set technical vision and multi-year strategy for Ads Quality ML • Lead and develop engineering managers, senior technical leaders, and ML engineers across multiple domains • Establish coherent modeling roadmap across engagement, conversion, ROAS, relevance, and ranking • Drive improvements in model quality, calibration, generalization, and robustness • Guide evolution toward larger, more generalizable architectures including foundation models and multimodal representations • Ensure modeling investments translate to reliable production outcomes through evaluation, experimentation, and monitoring • Partner with Ads Product, Data Science, Signals, Retrieval, Delivery, and ML Infrastructure teams • Build culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning **Requirements:** • Minimum 12 years building and deploying ML systems with significant leadership experience • Demonstrated success leading large-scale recommendation, ranking, advertising, or personalization ML teams • Strong understanding of deep learning, recommender systems, sequence models, embeddings, multimodal models, and foundation models • Experience with conversion, value, ROAS, or lower-funnel optimization (strongly preferred) • Proven ability to connect modeling objectives to online experiments and business outcomes • Experience operating production ML systems with demanding latency, availability, and reliability requirements • Track record building high-performing organizations and developing senior leaders • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred) **Location:** Palo Alto or San Francisco (1-2x per week in-office, hybrid) **Salary Range (US):** $314,580 – $550,515 USD **Equity:** Eligible *Equal opportunity employer.
