In this role, you’ll build and manage highly motivated, high-performing software engineering teams to support key business and technology areas. ### Position Summary The Senior Manager Software Engineering will: - Hire, mentor, and motivate engineering staff - Drive budgeting and planning - Partner with Product Managers to estimate effort, prioritize the roadmap, and deliver high-quality applications - Design robust, modular, scalable systems - Lead hands-on delivery of new features and improvements - Ensure systems are secure, compliant, and up to date - Identify opportunities for system and process improvements - Leverage **CI/CD** and process optimization to improve time to market - Stay current with industry trends and drive adoption of best practices - Help shape Mercury’s technical vision, strategy, and innovation for application systems ### Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) - Build and manage software engineering team(s) and foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence - Drive budgeting and planning for your area of responsibility - Collaborate with Product Managers to translate requirements into delivery plans - Review and translate product requirements into robust designs (modular, configurable, reusable, fast, secure, compliant, scalable, maintainable) - Lead teams hands-on to deliver prioritized roadmap items and remove delivery impediments - Collaborate across teams and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery - Review requirements, design, and code to ensure quality and adherence to best practices - Ensure application systems are secure, compliant, performing as expected, and up to date on the tech stack - Identify system and process improvements; drive implementation of new features, refactors/migrations, and process changes - Leverage CI/CD and process optimization to improve time to market - Stay current with industry trends and drive best-practice adoption - Assist in developing technical vision, strategy, and innovation ### Qualifications **Education** - Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent education/experience) - Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science **Experience** - Minimum: **10+ years** software engineering experience - Minimum: **5+ years** leading and managing staff - Preferred: Experience leading customer-facing digital experiences across multiple surfaces/channels (web/portal/transactional flows) - Strong full-stack product engineering background; experience leveraging backend APIs and defining clean frontend-to-platform contracts - Insurance domain experience is a plus (quote/purchase/service or other customer-facing applications in complex, data-driven environments) **Knowledge & Skills** - Proven ability to build and manage large, high-performing engineering teams - Experience hiring and developing next-level managers/leaders - Project management skills (estimating, planning, executing, tracking, reporting) - Experience leading multiple engineering teams across technology stacks (mobile, web, backend, data, etc.) - Distributed systems design and implementation (modular, configurable, reusable, secure, compliant, scalable, maintainable) - Experience with APIs, messaging
